My specialties include ADHD/executive functioning, anxiety, relationship/couples counseling, family dynamics, career coaching, work/life balance, depression and self-esteem.
As a black male and a Jamaican immigrant, I understand the unique challenges that marginalized communities face in accessing mental health services. I prioritize a safe and non-judgemental therapy space for BIPOC and LGBTQ+ clients to explore their identities and experiences, without fear of judgment or discrimination.

I have worked extensively in outpatient clinic settings, schools, and hospitals on an individual, family, and group work basis.
Whether you have been in therapy in the past or if it is something you have never experienced before, there is so much to learn about yourself, every time. Give yourself the gifts of time and support, and learn to manage the present as you heal from your past. I am an experienced, compassionate, goal-directed clinician who can help you work through a transition, crisis, or simply be there to listen without judgement. It is ultimately all about the connection and your courage to commit to the process of finding your strengths and healthy means of coping with stressors.

I am a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in treatment of children, adolescents and young adults from a family systems perspective. This means that I provide support not only to the identified individual seeking therapy, but I strongly consider the needs of all individuals within the family dynamic. I work from a relational perspective and provide long-term individualized mental health treatment and care. I understand that the idea of engaging in therapy can be an anxiety provoking experience and I always allow the client to lead in terms of the pace and the depth of treatment.

We all share a common human desire to love, be loved, feel gratified by and successful in our work, and experience a strong sense of connection to the people in our lives who are most important to us. Yet most of us struggle with some or many of these issues at one time or another as the feelings we seek may be interfered with by depression, anxiety, or anger. Diverse factors such as our family background, economic difficulties, losses, life transitions, trauma, addiction, and physical problems may reduce our ability to feel good about ourselves and our lives.

use psychodynamic treatment with attention to patterns of early attachment and family experience, but most of all, I work hard to help people feel better.
My years in the field have taught me that, at best, treatment is a shared endeavor, shaped by experience, training, curiosity, mutual respect, and a good sense of humor. I try to establish a genuine rapport to help clients find their way through depression, anxiety, stress and other emotional disruptions so they can function and thrive in everyday life. As a trained child psychotherapist and adult psychoanalyst, my interests span the life cycle, allowing my enjoyment and understanding of children to influence my engaged and nurturing style with adults.

Sometimes we'll look at how relationships with family and significant others have affected you.
If you're feeling stuck or are having difficulty focusing, I can help you. I've worked successfully with older adolescents, adults, and couples struggling with (among other things) anxiety, depression, issues around sexuality, and relationship difficulties. Therapy is an opportunity to share your innermost thoughts and feelings in a safe space. I offer a warm and supportive environment where you can express and explore ideas openly and honestly. I am active in therapy and will challenge you with constructive feedback when appropriate. Therapy may entail examining patterns in your life that block you from feeling fulfilled.

Whether it be to find a career you’re successful in, establish steady relationships or develop new hobbies, this uncertainty may create a lot of stress in your life. For this reason, you may be struggling with feelings of not being good enough, which results in a sense of hopelessness and frustration about life and what it should be. We receive these messages from family, friends and social media that it is important to be accepted, but can simultaneously struggle with feelings of loneliness and inadequacy from trying to achieve it.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
