Some of the concerns we seek to address include identity, career, conflict with family, relationships, trauma, substance use, illness, grief, death & dying.
You have everything you need. You possess abundant resources that are available to support you, within you. I believe therapy is relational alchemy and provides a mechanism for harnessing resources. As a therapist and clinical consultant, I provide a space for connection and healing with people who want to be active participants in their personal growth. I see myself as a partner and collaborator in our work together. I will support you to develop trust in yourself and gain clarity about how you want to live.

My approach is informed by the Family Systems model, which encourages an exploration of the roles, patterns, conflicts in one's family of origin and how they continue to affect you.
People look for a therapist when they are experiencing anxiety, difficulties in relationships, confusion around issues related to sexuality and/or identity. Others feel depressed, struggle with addiction, or have a sense that something is not right in their lives. Often people are trying to cope with old hurts or injuries, and find that their old ways of coping with them are no longer successful,or that these strategies are the very thing that brings them pain or frustration.Often these symptoms and problems are connected with early painful experiences,or from ideas and beliefs which have been formed in rigid, or dysfunctional family systems.

Family, couples and LGBTQ welcome!.
Are you silently suffering by not using your voice? My therapeutic approach is to focus on helping you find the strength to use this voice and understand how anxiety might be getting in the way from you having the life that you want. Honoring your truth is the path to healing and creating healthy relationships. I will work with you to help reduce negative "self-talk" and better understand how anger, shame and guilt can actually help guide you to your authentic, more fulfilled self. Additionally, I have many years of experience in working with clients around the US and the globe via Tele-therapy.

I've also worked extensively with teens, helping them learn skills and activate preexisting strengths to better navigate the unique social and academic challenges of adolescence (bullying, peer difficulties, separations, family conflict).
Doesn't everyone go through periods of uncertainty and hardship? I'm a psychologist with 7 years of clinical experience working at some of the top hospitals in New York. I specialize in CBT, DBT, and mindfulness based interventions. After a thorough evaluation, I'll offer hands-on evidence-based strategies that can be immediately applied to reduce stress in your life. Together, we will experiment with new effective responses to life's many dilemmas -- resulting in deeper overall satisfaction, and maybe sparking some playfulness and joy along the way. I know you can feel better, and I want to help you get there.

Issues of self-esteem, identity, intimate relationships, sexuality and gender, family, work, and peer interactions, as well as overwhelming emotional turmoil may form the basis of your therapy.
Life is a series of transitions. We often need help in moving from a place of discomfort to a place of calmness, safety, and satisfaction. The process of psychotherapy can help you get to that better place. I work with individuals, couples, and families with a focus on achieving self-understanding for the purpose of changing situations which are stressful and unpleasant. My practice is all inclusive, treating those seemingly well adjusted yet with nagging underlying dissatisfactions to those experiencing extreme distress, alienation, and shame.

My approach is grounded in my eclectic training with a combination of psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral and family therapy.
My aim as a psychotherapist is to help individuals and couples stop repeating destructive and self-defeating patterns of behavior. I do so by helping people gain deeper understanding of their issues and the complex factors that underlie such patterns. We humans cling to familiar way of coping, even if we know that our behavior is no longer serving us, or is even hurting us. Understanding why we do what we do in the present will not only help us understand ourselves but will also help us let go of the familiar but dysfunctional way of coping with life events.

Do you find it difficult to trust yourself to make healthy decisions? Do you have conflict with friends, family or your employer? Do you want to stop holding yourself back from doing what you REALLY want to do? You may be experiencing "normal" life stress such as finishing school, living together, getting married, a career change, or contemplating parenthood. You may be having "unexpected" stress such as losing a job, deciding to break up, losing a loved one, or being in conflict with yourself or someone else. It's normal to feel anxious, sad or overwhelmed at these times.

Because the family is the essential context for our mental health, helping family members cope with stressors related to normative life transitions, and the traumatizing effects of unforeseen crises such as mental or physical illness, addiction, divorce, and parenting special needs children or adolescents form the core of my practice.
My inclusive practice is anchored in a respect for the cultural lens that shape a diversity of world views. My therapeutic approach is especially effective for changing repetitive unproductive behavioral patterns in interpersonal relationships and supporting new insights for understanding that the same mindset cannot be used for finding solutions to the complex problems that created them.

My practice is psychoanalytically based, relationally oriented, personalized, creative and built on many years of experience working with individuals, couples and families in the fields of education, child & family welfare, community mental health, addiction medicine, career development and psychoanalytic psychotherapy.
Anxieties, insecurity, depression, difficult patterns in relationships or work, and problems focusing can be understood and changed, so you have more energy and confidence to devote to living. Become more connected to yourself and others through a specialized process of exploration with a trained professional, and see a difference in your life. A therapist's expertise and experience are very important, but the key ingredient of effective therapy is a "good fit" between you and your therapist. If you'd like to see how it would be to work together, I would be pleased to hear from you.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
