It takes time to change and conquer your mountain, but I believe with a combined subjective/ family systems approach, progress can be achieved in less time.
I take a modern approach to therapy, As an LMFT and LCPC I see individuals of all ages and life stages : individuals, children, and families. As you search for a therapist you want someone who is empathic, but also experienced and competent. You need to be able to trust that your therapist has a plan for cure! if this is your first attempt in therapy or you have had therapy but need something more than you got, come and talk with me.

Sometimes on our journey we need an objective guide. I can help you enhance your ability to manage problems involving "big feelings” that otherwise overwhelm. If your goal is to start getting new results for old recurring problems we can do that with compassion and curiosity. It is important to explore our personal history to understand why we think or behave the ways we currently do. While personal growth isn't always painless, you don't have to be alone in the process if you have a therapist who will commit to the process along side of you. I can help you gain new perspectives that will get you to solve problems effectively.

How amazing would it be if there was one 'go-to' book to guide everyone in learning how to live their lives to the fullest, discover true happiness, and relish in the satisfaction of working through the daily challenges we are handed. I have yet to discover this book. However, in my 13 years of working with children, youth, adults, and families with emotional and behavioral challenges I've learned that our experiences in life, no matter how difficult, are important and shape how we relate to others, how we feel, and move through this journey of life.

Choosing a therapist for yourself or loved one can be a difficult task. A true "Master" of the healing arts is one who has spent years learning, practicing, and refining their skills as a healer. Individuals, couples and families first entering into the therapeutic relationship often feel overwhelmed, confused, anxious and vulnerable. They need to feel safe by knowing that they are truly being heard and respected. They also need to trust that their therapist has sufficient experience to patiently guide them thru the process of self discovery on their path to wellness and feeling whole, perhaps for the first time in their life.

Hi there. Thanks for stopping to read my blurb. My name is Nikki and I have worked in the Community Mental Health field for over 20 years. I have had the pleasure of working with many types of people in various stages of need- from case management to Crisis Intervention and support. I feel honored that people have let me into their lives and be witness to such vulnerable parts. I'm invested in working with people and meeting them where they are at. I believe that people can do incredible things and that at times we all need some support, guidance and someone to talk and process with- I'd love the chance to be that person.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
