Ana grew up in Mendoza, Argentina in a city with a landscape and four seasons, just like Utah. This came with a gift, she speaks Spanish, and is trying very hard to learn Portuguese (for now she can understand it very well). Ana earned her bachelor’s degree at the Universidad Nacional de Cuyo, in Argentina and her master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) at Argosy University, the Draper, Utah campus. Before becoming a therapist, Ana was a music teacher and she loved working with children and teenagers. Ana’s therapeutic approaches are rooted in Solution-Focused Therapy and Trauma Focused-CBT (TF-CBT).

Therapy should be a comfortable experience where you feel safe and accepted as you are. It isn’t always easy to share your feelings or experiences, and you deserve an environment where you feel you can speak freely and honestly. I work with adults and teenagers experiencing a variety of issues, including: depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, childhood trauma, self-harming behaviors, relationship difficulty, family dynamics, substance abuse, LGBTQIA+ support, and many more. I want every client to gain more understanding of themselves. A more complete understanding of yourself comes with a more complete understanding of how to cope.

One of my core beliefs is that every individual can benefit from therapy and discover more about themselves. I am passionate about working with children, adolescents, young adults and parents. I acknowledge each stage of life can be difficult to navigate and I enjoy helping clients in life's transitions. Important challenges I aid in are anxiety, depression, self esteem and identity, LGBTQ concerns, conflict resolution with family and peers, trauma, life transitions, faith transitions, and behavioral challenges. I believe these years are a crucial time to develop healthy skills. I am also passionate about working with athletes.

I come from a family of musicians and incorporate musicality into a unique style of sound therapy.
Along my career in human services that started in 2017 as a volunteer at a psychiatric hospital, I developed a passion for psychotherapy, emphasizing existential and spiritual components. Having an undergraduate in philosophy, where I received education on world religion, spirituality, and the fundamental questions of reality. I poineered a blend of interpersonal talk therapy, mindfulness, and meditative sound therapy that helps individuals transcend the narratives that have kept them stuck in recurring maladaptive patterns.

Some issues have included adolescent behavior concerns, sexual misconduct, depression, trauma and loss, pornography and family difficulties straining marital relationships.
One of the most challenging and stressful things we face in life are the emotional and behavioral problems of our children. These difficulties impact not only the success of the child but the overall happiness within our home, our marital relationships and life itself can become wearisome and unmanageable. We may begin to wonder if there is “hope” for improvement or even may feel like “what’s wrong with us.” In the effort to find relief or comfort, we may find ourselves drawn to self-defeating and even destructive behaviors that offer immediate yet temporary relief. There are other options. I offer just this to my clients.

I use Internal Family Systems (IFS) with clients which utilize your brain and “parts” work to heal.
“Anything that’s human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable. When we can talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting, and less scary.” — Fred Rogers. I’ve studied people and learned about self-healing while working as a psych tech at Utah State Hospital along with other mental health roles. Did you know placebos work on medical conditions close to 33% and up to 60%? That means that your brain has enormous healing power. I like to learn about my clients' lives to discover their roadblocks and challenges, as well as their strengths and goals.

I believe in having family support during the healing process and engage caregivers as essential partners in the therapeutic process.
It is so hard to watch someone you care about suffering. You want to get them back to feeling like themselves again. Your child, teen, or young adult will receive expert guidance and support as they face the challenges of trauma, depression, and anxiety. This hard time they are going through right now will not define them.

If you have never been through a high conflict divorce it is pretty hard to describe those feelings to others. You feel a loss of parenthood, having to constantly defend your right to have time with kids and sometimes even estrangement and alienation from the other parent. This financial, emotional, mental, and physical challenge is a lonely and burdensome process. I went through it alone and you do not have to. The Family Advocacy Center has been a dream of mine for a long time. Resources to guide you through traumatic times are nil to very few. I have a passion for what I do to strengthen the family as it changes.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
