In life, we all face struggles and challenges. I provide therapy for children, adolescents, adults and geriatrics to assist clients through those difficult times. I use a combination of Cognitive Behavioral and Person Centered Therapy. My goal is to provide a safe and warm environment, where my client can feel comfortable to explore the past, gain personal insight and make positive changes when necessary. When working with my clients, developing a strong working relationship is most important. I have worked with mental health clients for the past 16 years

Whether you are wanting to come individually, as a couple or a family, we will work to make the experience what you need.
Choosing to become the best version of yourself is an exciting thing! Seeking counseling is an opportunity to talk with someone in a safe, non-judgmental space. This allows you to dive deep into yourself and determine who you want to be: your most genuine self. Whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, or you're adjusting to a big change, I would love to be the person you confide in. My goal is to help people find hope, knowing that they can become that person they want to be. Instead of binging on Netflix or social media to distract yourself from life’s stress, let’s work towards change.

I have written some content that you, friends, and family might find helpful on my blog, here: joanneketch.
Have you ever wondered "do I have a problem with alcohol" or "do I have a substance abuse problem?" Have you tried to make changes to your relationships, mood, outlook, or patterns? Have you Googled looking for answers but find you can't put the solutions in place, or find that they don't last for long? Do you need a custom plan instead of cliché suggestions and cookie-cutter assignments? For over 15 years, I have helped professionals, executives, business owners, and other high achievers make and sustain the changes that they tried "on their own" but were unable to having the lasting impact they were hoping for.

Drawing on a desire to help people overcome obstacles in their personal relationships, my professional work involves counseling individuals and families in order to achieve conflict resolution and better communication. As a neutral third party, I am better able to identify the challenges my patients face and facilitate positive change. Working with families, it is essential to foster a high level of trust between the therapist and family members. Mutual respect and open communication are essential to the therapeutic process. Engaging patients at their level, I help people find the change that they desire and the strength within themselves to achieve that change.

I provide family therapy and have experience assisting clients to successfully transition back into a fulfilling life from crisis.
Life can be challenging and at some point, those “challenges” can be a bit more than we know how to tackle on our own. Whether you are simply seeking a healthier lifestyle, focusing on managing relationships, or needing support to get through a life-altering crisis or traumatic event, therapy can help. Whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression, self-esteem, bi-polar disorder, grief or any other issue, there is hope. You may feel hesitant at first to seek assistance, but once you do, you will feel more confident knowing you are taking the beginning steps to a better life and more improved you.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
