Anxiety, depression, trauma, self-esteem, family of origin struggles, and issues with spirituality are just a picture of issues discussed within sessions.
I have experience with multiple populations; from children, teens, couples, and families to the individual seeking therapy. As human beings, it is paramount that we feel seen and known. As a Latina, I also have a desire to provide resources for black and brown people who have felt barred from therapy due to stigma within these communities. I hope you allow me the opportunity to provide a space for you on your healing journey.

Often in times of stress, we don’t even realize how much emotional energy we are using just to get through the day. Whether you’re finding yourself feeling overwhelmed, stressed, in pain, alone, facing difficulties with family members, or experiencing recurring issues in close relationships, being able to talk about it can bring relief and even be life changing. Having a safe, nonjudgmental therapeutic space to address difficult, painful, or overwhelming feelings or problems can equip you to manage the adverse periods that life brings, feel better, and experience more satisfaction in your relationships and within yourself.

I utilize skills founded in evidence-based therapies including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy.
My clients experience me as nurturing, grounded, relatable, and professional which combined can create a safe space and therapeutic environment. I believe that therapy should be enjoyable, and I like to bring a sense of humor to sessions when appropriate, but when it comes to more serious issues, I pride myself on being an active non-judgmental listener and a compassionate ally to my individual and couple clients.

Relationships can be hard to navigate especially when you have been hurt by someone you trusted. How do you trust someone again? Is healing possible? You may find yourself questioning your own identity. Whether you were hurt by a friend, a family member, a significant other, or a co-worker, your pain is valid. It can seem easy to push aside feelings of worthlessness, self-doubt, anger, guilt, and sadness but eventually, those heavy emotions will start to negatively affect how you connect with others around you and how you view yourself.

I get it, adulting is HARD! Sometimes, it can feel impossible to manage everything life throws at you, like work, school, dating, friendships, finances, and so much more. Therapy can make it easier. I specialize in counseling young adults, ages 18-35, helping them adjust to this new phase of life. If you're looking to learn how to manage stress and anxiety, develop your career, make new friends, build healthy romantic relationships, establish boundaries with family, moderate substance use, or improve your relationship with food and your body, we may be the perfect fit.

In order to accommodate busy family, work, and school schedules, I offer a variety of daytime, evening, and weekend appointments so you can continue to be active with your existing commitments.
Many young adults and working professionals experience life transitions, career stressors, and relationship challenges during this season of life that contribute to chronic feelings of sadness, isolation, and worry. Or perhaps past hurts resurface and we find ourselves having a tough time getting over them. Sometimes in these instances, we hesitate to involve the ones closest to us and, though it can be scary to confide in a therapist, we recognize that we could truly benefit from an objective perspective.

We live in a world where we are conditioned by so many things around us. Do you feel you are not good enough? Do you experience the need to achieve perfection? Are you made to feel your needs are unimportant? This can be a result of messaging we have received from family, society, culture, etc. It can leave us feeling sad, unmotivated, and purposeless, among many other emotions. Together we can challenge norms and evaluate if and what we can reset. Imagine a life in which you could be relieved of all the unnecessary weight you carry. Together we can awaken parts of you that you may not know exist.

Perhaps you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or hopeless. But you're also feeling ready for change, which is why you're here. It's common to feel like our thoughts and emotions are in a confusing and tangled knot, whether we have experienced trauma, challenging family dynamics, relationship issues, depression, anxiety, and/or other mental health challenges. What I can do is help you untangle the knot one thread at a time, make sense of these parts, and understand their origins and connections. Most importantly, together we can start to weave a new pattern that suits you, so you feel empowered to live an authentic and fulfilling life.

There are times when we feel stuck and needing some sort of change. We do not always know what that change is. Fears, anxieties, or other obstacles get in the way. We grow frustrated with our inability to create change. Perhaps you are uncertain as to whether you want to continue in your career path. Maybe you are frustrated with your relationship and need to change it, or are considering moving on. Maybe you are continually having difficulties expressing yourself, or in dealing with stress, grief, anxieties, depression, or family/relationship matters.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
