My work is at heart solution focused, looking at the whole person in the context of family, social life and work or school.
To lose faith in yourself, the future, the healing force of the human spirit is a terrible tragedy. In my work with adolescents and adults, our task is to re-ignite that vital life force. Through reexamining the past we remove old blocks, make sense of today's issues and work through self-destructive patterns. My training in Humanistic Psychotherapy and Jungian studies,EMDR, Family Systems Theory and Focusing enable me to draw from a wide range of interventions and interpretations. I also have worked extensively in the realm of addictions and eating disorders using a 12 step model.

Looking at your personal story in the larger context of your family, your ancestry, and the times and culture we live in, you will come to understand your suffering and your particular wounds in ways that uncover their deeper meaning and lead to lasting transformation.
You are unique in the challenges you face and in your gifts. Whether you suffer from anxiety, depression, an unrelenting sense of despair, low self-esteem, are hyper-critical of yourself, feel disconnected from life or joyless, are frustrated with work or school, have problems in your relationships, or suffer with PTSD, your experience is particular to you. I will help you discover the underlying dynamics of your symptoms and patterns in ways that allow you to transform them. Rather than merely "fixing" a problem or “fixing” yourself, you will learn how to listen to and tend what troubles you.

I work from orientations including Family Systems, Jungian theory, CBT, and mindfulness.
If you're reading this I want to encourage you to keep the momentum! Reaching out to a therapist is one of the most difficult and hopeful things you can do and it’s worth it! I work with anxiety, depression, addictions and relationship issues. I've been a psychologist for over 35 years and I still love the work. My approach incorporates a spiritual orientation; this is due to working with people who are in recovery, and my own journey. Spiritual based psychotherapy is not about religion, but about accessing the Power that surrounds us, the power of Love. I am an active, engaging therapist with a sense of humor, it’s good to laugh.

We offer individual, family and group evidence-based services provided by Licensed Professional Counselors. While we are skilled in traditional methods of verbal therapy and assessment, we are also expertly trained to incorporate artistic modalities when appropriate. Creative arts therapy is not dependent on the outcome of the art and there is no art experience necessary. Rather, art-making contributes to healing, holding and growing into our best selves.

Drawing from my experience in somatic-based therapies, Internal Family Systems, attachment theory, and Brainspotting, we are able to address deeper patterns that leave you feeling stuck.
Do you find yourself caught in a loop of always trying hard but never feeling like enough? Do you hear your inner voice overthinking and being critical far too often? Maybe you can recall anxiousness or concern from a young age and struggle to feel truly connected to others. Changing these ways may feel impossible and stepping out of these patterns can seem daunting but you may feel that little revolt within to break away from these cycles. That part boldly dreams of a new era filled with confidence, genuine connections, and healing.

I work with adults struggling with relationship issues, addiction, depression, anxiety, and PTSD. Many of my clients have become very successful despite difficult childhoods and are curious how therapy can help to reduce their suffering, heal from past traumas, and learn healthier ways of attachment. I use elements of EMDR therapy in my approach. I am kink allied and sex positive. I invite you to come as you are. I will respect, support, and encourage you during our time in therapy.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
