For many minorities, there is a stigma toward psychotherapy; it’s not spoken about with their friends and family.
East meets West. It is a phrase we hear often but how does it translate into practice? The pull lies in the strength of the familiar; the push is an urge to create space and jump into the unfamiliar. As an individual who was raised between two cultures, I offer a warm and safe space to discuss cultural competency as it relates to your life. Retaining your cultural values and traditions while simultaneously assimilating to the societal norms of your geographic upbringing can lead to many questions about ourselves in the past, present and future. I believe strongly in your ability to grow if nurtured in an encouraging environment.

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family therapist providing evidence-based practices. When I'm not in private practice, I'm working at UCSF Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences treating children, adolescents, and their families. Living in the Bay Area has many advantages and opportunities that motivate us to become the best, most successful version of ourselves. At times, occupational and social demands can bring overwhelming amounts of stress, pressure, and anxiety. I'm currently focusing my practice for families and couples as well as young professionals and athletes who have experienced trauma and/or high stress.

I work well with children, adults and family system as a whole.
Do you feel alone with what you are going through ? Do you feel stuck in a situation and don't see way out? Please know, you don't have to suffer alone! The help is just a phone call way! As your therapist, I will help you feel safe, accepted, and cared for. My care and understanding is genuine, as for someone who struggled myself the strugglers of others are easy to understand. I am direct but compassionate, working hard to uncover the root of the problem rather than putting a bandage on it.

Something is getting in the way of living the life you want to live. You want to be professionally successful, have good relationships with friends and family, contribute meaningfully to the world and even have some fun. Instead you may be suffering a barrage of negative thoughts about yourself, sabotaging work or relationships or feeling unbearably anxious. I can provide a supportive, respectful relationship where you can face these difficult issues. I have helped many people to curb self/other destructiveness, improve relationships and have a more successful work-life while learning to be more kind to themselves and others.

I use my training in EMDR, Internal Family Systems and somatic therapy to help people process unresolved traumas, decrease anxiety, and improve their overall mood, relationship to themselves and others.
Video and Phone Sessions available to all California Residents - A lot has changed about life as we know it. As someone who usually is able to manage, support others, and be on top of things you may now be feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, and even unsure what to do. The ways you know to take care and succeed are not available now or have deeply changed. People may even be reaching to you for help. Yet, you yourself are feeling scared, worried and isolated. You also need a safe space to process, make sense of what's happening, and only have to pay attention to you. I can help.

As a Black, queer femme with mixed ancestry, I carry with me both a personal and professional understanding of the systems of oppression and domination that entangle with identity and wreak havoc in our lives. I have specific interest and experience working with those struggling with racial identity, sexual identity and gender identity; those healing from and finding their independence from/within dysfunctional family dynamics; folks who have been affected by intimate partner violence and dating violence; and those seeking to uncover patterns of intergenerational trauma within themselves and their family systems.

Most of us lug around a suitcase full of our thoughts, feelings, family history and past experiences and have no idea what's in there. Our current responses to and experience of life come from the contents of that suitcase. Together in therapy we gently unpack it. We will see what is working for you, what needs more support and what has served it's purpose but no longer works. I work collaboratively and am curious about all the things that make you who you are. I am particularly interested in working with people who feel misunderstood or unimportant.

I am a big believer in sociality (people getting together—in all the forms that can take) and have seen how talking with a therapist can forge a stable link beyond friends and the family that a lot of people find useful.
People often find themselves stuck repeating patterns of relating to others, thinking, feeling, or behaving. These habitual ways of responding feel like the self. And yet, when patterns—typically formed in childhood—are loosened, what feels very much more like the self can emerge with new freedom. Through my psychoanalytic style of practice, I engage people's curiosity about who they are currently, bringing my own interest in life history and impasses that may fall outside of conscious awareness. Often, the impulse to try therapy comes from a feeling that one has been stuck being oneself for some time and it is not fully working.

As parents and clinicians, we know it is hard to have a unique brain in a typical world. We know you need different navigational tools in these turbulent waters. So, we designed a program based on well-researched therapies for all ages that will strengthen core brain functions - attention, memory, processing speed and problem-solving - and increase social skills. For parents, we work together to find the right community supports and develop the skills you need as a parent to support a calm and thriving family life.

I’m a licensed Marriage & Family Therapist and a clinical supervisor. For the past 15 years I’ve helped people better understand themselves, heal from past difficulties, and build stronger interpersonal connections. Examining one’s difficulties requires courage and resolve. Therapy is a long-term investment in yourself and in your desire to live a fuller, more satisfying life. With a lot of effort and patience, the therapeutic process can pays off.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
