Do you struggle with thoughts of self-harm, of not being good enough, or feeling like you are empty inside? Do you struggle with feelings of extreme anger and do you sometimes "erupt"? Or does your child struggle with intense "temper tantrums", self-harming behavior, or suicidal behaviors? Or does your loved one struggle with these things and it's negatively impacted YOUR life and you just don't know how to cope anymore?

I received a Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and a PhD in Counseling Psychology from the University of Miami.
Focus: college students and professionals struggling with depression, anxiety, and/or relationship issues. I'm trained in evidence-based therapies, such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, which concludes that through mindful meditation, we can defuse ourselves from our thoughts and emotions, allowing us to commit to value-congruent actions in a way that brings us life purpose. I am also passionate about working with couples, helping them navigate through their struggles at any point in their relationship or deal with sensitive issues. Lastly, I'm a sex-positive Sex Therapist who welcomes individuals to explore their sexual issues in a safe and non-judgmental setting.

I work with children, teens, and families to support them as a family and strengthen their connections with each other. I specialize in blended families and co-parenting support for all types of families.

My training in couple and family therapy provides a perspective that allows integration of multiple variables in problem solving.
Problems do not occur in a vacuum. Individual problems often have symptoms that affect the entire family system. I work with children, adolescents, couples, and families experiencing whatever problems of the moment. During our work together, we will explore the impact of the issue and join together to generate solutions that not only benefit the people in the room, but may also positively influence future generations.

I also help clients cope with chronic illnesses and the effect on their family.
I have extensive experience with mood disorders, trauma and addictions and work with all ages. I am trained in EMDR and use that technique with both children and adults if appropriate. My clients often state when they first spoke to me they felt immediately at ease and did not feel judged. I am able to assist my clients in seeing patterns in their life story and work to identify and change core beliefs such as "I'm not good enough", "I'm defective" or "I cannot trust others."

You may be in a place where none of your friends or family truly know what is going on and you need someone that you can trust that will be there to assist without judgment.
On the outside you have it all together but on the inside you are falling apart, you continue to tell yourself you are just tired or stressed. Have you been struggling to do basic things and are uninterested in the things you once enjoyed. You are experiencing constant mood swings that you cannot explain or control, feeling hopeless and constant racing thoughts that make it difficult to get through each day. Do you find yourself spending money or overindulging in food for instant gratification?

Are your feelings often invalidated by the people you love? Are you frustrated with dismissive responses, feeling disregarded, unseen, and unheard? Are you aiming to make everyone happy but feel your best efforts fall short of their expectations? Do you feel you need to be doing more despite achieving what others may deem as success? If you struggle with putting others' needs before your own, communicating your feelings and emotions authentically, and constantly feeling like you're not doing enough - you're in the right place.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
