The decision to seek out a therapist demonstrates initiative and a willingness to invest in yourself and your most valuable relationships. While I have 17 years of experience as a mental health professional working with issues such as anxiety, depression, loss, trauma, and life transitions, I have a particular expertise and affinity for working with clients on relationship issues. My training in Couples and Family Therapy honed my interest in examining, enhancing, and repairing relationship dynamics in couples, families, and individuals who feel that their relational and communication patterns may be standing in the way of leading a richer life.

My eclectic approach incorporates CBT, ACT, DBT, family systems, mindfulness-based therapies, and trauma-focused approaches.
The most difficult times for many of us are the ones we inflict upon ourselves. Many struggles in life are exacerbated by our own judgment and shame regarding ourselves and our inner experiences. I am passionate about supporting humans in healing their core wounds and teaching mindfulness as a way of being. In a nonjudgmental therapeutic sanctuary, I gently challenge the old habits and beliefs that no longer serve you, while helping you gain greater insight, develop a meaningful self-compassion practice, and live a more purposeful, fulfilled life. Together, we'll help you navigate towards empowerment and inner peace.

Calling all South Asian Misfits who feel like they don't belong: Being yourself does not make you "less" of a South Asian; it makes you a more genuine one. I see therapy as a process of discovery where, together, we come to understand and address the issues you struggle with. As I gradually get to know you I will listen for patterns and gaps in your story, which are usually meaningful. In this confidential process I will be a committed and supportive ally to you, someone who listens carefully and considers the things you are facing in their context, including the larger family and cultural background. My approach is informed by a psychoanalytic perspective and my style is empathic but also real. The clients I see usually struggle with anxiety, depression, PTSD, or relationships.

My training is with family systems therapy, noticing patterns, and creating connections.
Clients can expect that I will be curious to understand where they are coming from, their background and what made them who they are today. Working together, my clients and I will go on a journey to explore their past life as well as their dreams and aspirations for the future. I firmly believe all emotions and feelings are there to be welcomed felt and understood.

I work with people who are dealing with stress, relationship issues, and family conflicts. Some are afraid they are "not good enough", or struggle with people pleasing, which comes at a great cost to themselves. There are those who have a hard time figuring out who they are and what they want in life. My job is to help you manage stress, improve relationships, find out your wants and needs, and gain more self-confidence. The first step is to get a sense of one each other, in order to gain comfort and figure out what interventions will work best.

I treat individuals, couples and families with the perspective of the whole system. Each person has learned beliefs and ideologies from their family of origin and bring those with them when they enter a new relationship. Helping uncover how those beliefs affect their lives is often key to the underpinnings of their problems and being able to decide what works for them is critical to being able to create a strong foundation in their relationships.

In my experience, difficult emotions, such as sadness and anger, are often replaced with expectations. They can come from family, partners, jobs and social media, and can paint a particular picture that can alienate the wide range of emotions a human may feel. These expectations often leave us feeling lost and alone. In order to develop genuine, creative relationships with others and ourselves, we must find a way to safely experience all of our emotions. If you feel you have hit a wall encountering painful depression and anxiety, and feel tied up in repetitive conflicts, you may need help examining the range of your emotions.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
