Have you questioned your spirituality, faith and/or belief systems or perhaps going through a Dark night of the soul? Have you or someone you know/love been diagnosed with cancer? Does chronic pain or neuropathy keep you from functioning throughout the day or not sleep well at night? If you answered yes to any of these questions, I can help guide you through these transitions.

I have always been amazed at the inherent healing qualities of art. By providing my clients with a safe holding environment, I pave the way to explore their concerns in therapy. Art has a way of quickly bringing issues from the unconscious into the conscious realm where they can be processed verbally or just witnessed. Art is wonderful for increasing tolerance of frustration, delay of gratification and learning to verbalize emotional states. I use all of the Expressive Arts to create individually tailored experientials to promote increased understanding and growth with my clients.

I primarily utilize CBT, DBT-informed, EMDR, Play Therapy and Expressive Arts Therapy.
My aim is to work with clients who struggle with feeling disconnected from themselves, others, are anxious, overwhelmed and uncertain about how they are supposed to manage all the aspects of their lives. I work with you to be able to resolve the barriers that are keeping you from living a full and meaningful life.

I view all my clients like they are a mirror image of myself. I see my work as being employed by you to help you get where you want to go. I am an experiential therapist Very different practice from what's out there today. CBT, DBT, TFT, EFT, EMDR and more are integrated into your experience. Therapy should be an experience of growth and revelation about "self" and not just a conversation. Tools should be the takeaway and integration into daily life the goal.

Does that voice in your head keep you up at night? Do you ever replay the events of the day, wondering what you could have done, should have done, differently? At times, it may seem impossible to do it all and you may feel helpless to slow down the train. Underneath it all, you just want some balance, to be more present and enjoy the moments life has to offer. Yet no matter what you do, you can’t seem to find the joy and happiness that others appear to have. You really just want to know that everything is going to be okay.

You have been sitting with your thoughts and seem to recycle your memories. You are excellent at suppressing your hurt and stay busy with work and life as a distraction. You no longer connect with others the way you used to and keep friends and family at a distance. The Pandemic may have increased your anxiety and depression and you are uncertain where to begin. Your worry and fear come out as; anger, sadness and controlling behaviors, due to questioning your worth and self esteem. Will I ever feel truly happy? Will I feel truly loved? Will I find my life path and the career that makes my soul soar? Will I learn to forgive?

Shall we talk about the issues you face? You may not be sure how to deal with them on your own. We could talk them through and consider the best solutions that would ease your mind by removing worrisome thoughts. Learning how to resolve some of these issues with people you relate to all the time will increase their understanding of you.

Therapy is a wonderful opportunity to gently witness, learn, and grow upon your own individual path. Often times, the circumstances leading someone to seek a healing relationship are both difficult and hopeful. Within the counseling relationship, we are able to identify and honor patterns of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors from a place of understanding and empowerment. The healing transformation is able to occur naturally and gently from this gentle place of self compassion.

Expressive Arts Therapists

What happens in expressive arts therapy?

In an expressive arts therapy session, the therapist will provide the space and materials necessary to encourage the client to express themselves creatively. These can include art supplies, musical instruments, a journal, a camera, and more. The therapist offers careful guidance throughout the creative process, often noticing and talking about psychological issues as they arise. Many clients also benefit from the mind-body connection—the physical act of making art can help them feel more grounded and present.

How long does expressive arts therapy take?

An expressive arts therapy session will typically last between 50 minutes and an hour. Group sessions may run longer. Sometimes, a client might only need one or two sessions of expressive arts therapy in conjunction with talk therapy to resolve a psychological issue. Others might find a fixed number of sessions over the course of either weeks or months to be beneficial. The duration depends on the client and their individual needs and goals for therapy.

How does expressive arts therapy help children?

Creativity is an important part of normal child development. Expressive arts therapy proves a safe outlet for child clients to learn to identify their emotions and express them in healthy ways. In expressive arts therapy, children can build their self-esteem, discover more about their personality and strengths, and feel a sense of normalcy in an otherwise chaotic world. This therapeutic approach can be particularly helpful for children with developmental disabilities, autism, ADHD, speech impairments, and other conditions.

What are the limitations of expressive arts therapy?

Sometimes individuals have physical limitations that can affect their ability to express themselves artistically in certain mediums. For example, someone with hearing problems might find it difficult to make music. Sickness and mobility issues can make some types of art physically inaccessible (e.g., sculpting, dancing, etc.). Sometimes, clients are overly skeptical and have trouble letting go and engaging with the creative process. Individuals who require a higher level of care may be better served with other types of therapy.
