My areas of practice are DBT, ERP, Clinical Hypnotherapy and EMDR.
As an intensively trained DBT therapist, I use a collaborative approach to help clients build A Life Worth Living. As a performance coach and certified personal trainer, I assist clients in integrating their health and fitness goals with their current lifestyle as well as helping them understand and manage the impact of their emotions on their fitness, health and day to day life. In teaching skills to both groups, I work together with clients to develop their own plan for overcoming the emotional and physical barriers currently challenging them and then how to create their path for moving forward and achieving their goals.

We all want to feel empowered to deal with the problems life naturally throws at us. We feel empowered when we are in control and manage our lives in the way we want. In order to take control of our lives, we need to have a greater awareness of how our personal attributes and experiences influence the way we respond to what happens in our lives; our strengths, weaknesses, and our underlying motivations and barriers to how we solve life problems. Because we are complex and unique, we need to find our own unique path to building an empowered life.

All of the therapists here believe that what sets us apart from many other therapists is the fact we actually help you help yourself make the necessary changes in your life by giving you techniques, tools, skills, and guidance to achieve your goals. You'll almost always walk out of a session with a new technique or two that you can go home and start using immediately. I am invested in helping individuals & couples navigate the challenges & milestones that surface in serious dating, pre-engagement, engagement, and married relationships. I am a certified facilitator for several evidence-based relationship-building inventory programs that help reduce vulnerability of a failed relationship. Research shows that most people wait until they are six years into a relationship before they reach for the help, direction, and support they need. I help intentional couples build resilient bonds by more deeply understanding one another through learning & practicing tools to enrich their relationship.

You are feeling trapped. Stuck in a seemingly endless loop of unwanted thoughts, fears, or painful memories. You feel like the only way to get relief is to avoid what hurts or do something…anything to quiet the thoughts. Your symptoms have made your life smaller and smaller until you don't even recognize who you are or who you were meant to be. You only see your symptoms. OCD, anxiety, depression, substance use, and/or trauma make you feel like you are on an island alone.

Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) Therapists

Do I need exposure and response prevention therapy?

Many clients decide to seek help for obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors when these symptoms are distressing enough to disrupt everyday life. Any thoughts or behaviors that cause friction in close relationships are also worth addressing. In addition, the client’s symptoms don’t have to be severe for them to benefit from ERP therapy.

Is exposure and response prevention therapy part of cognitive behavioral therapy?

Exposure and response prevention is one specific type of CBT that focuses on behavioral change in response to triggering stimuli. It is related to exposure therapy but adds an additional component of preventing compulsive and harmful responses.

How long does exposure and response prevention therapy take?

While every patient is different, exposure and response prevention therapy typically lasts around 12 sessions, although some treatments can take longer. A therapist will determine if the treatment is complete based on how the client faces their fears, particularly the strongest ones. When a client feels less anxiety about stimuli that once evoked terror or distress, that is generally an indication that they are nearing the end of ERP therapy.

What are the limitations of exposure and response prevention therapy?

The most common pitfalls of exposure and response prevention therapy include not addressing a client’s core fears, allowing the client to avoid their most distressing stimuli, and using imaginary exposure when the client requires real-life exposure (and vice versa). ERP therapy is most effective when the client commits to the full course of treatment; if the client stops early or doesn’t practice what they have learned outside of therapy sessions, they are less likely to have successful outcomes.
