Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) are the methods most supported by the research so I use these when working with OCD.
My approach focuses on personal insight and growth through trust. Using the strengths you already have, we will work to help you face your challenges with confidence. I am experienced in working with adults and adolescents struggling with anxiety in its many flavors and forms. Phobias, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, social anxiety, performance anxiety, generalized anxiety and panic are my specialties. Fortunately, these respond well to therapy so you don't have to suffer through it.

Do you feel caught in a never-ending loop of worries or uncertainty? Maybe you’re troubled by recurrent intrusive thoughts and images? Do certain situations and triggers cause you to freeze up and panic? These, along with depression, are the common concerns my clients present with. Despite their best efforts they can’t seem to find lasting relief. However, there's hope. In my practice, I employ Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), two of the most effective therapies science has given us for overcoming the challenges of Anxiety, OCD, and Depression. I'll help guide you toward peace of mind.

Finding your next step can be Confusing, Intimidating, Daunting. Seeking professional assistance for life's many complicated twists is a sign of mature humility. I have heard, "therapy is for broken people" and this could not be farther from the truth. Therapy is a window into a healthier life, ripe with clearer goals and personal accomplishments, more accountability, greater dreams, and significantly more rewarding relationships. TAKING the decision to speak with someone allows access to evidence-based, efficient, effective tools you can use the rest of your life - once you find your meaning and purpose, all else falls into place.

Sometimes it's easy to define what our struggles are: sadness, loneliness, sorrow, grief, worry, fear, trauma, the past, relationships. Other times we simply know we aren't living how we'd most like to. Uncovering how to live more fully is the hope I bring to every session. I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) as a foundation for growth. Each hour and each day, I am committed to compassion, curiosity, openness, and nonjudgment and know that our work will go as far as you’re willing to trust me. I treat this work with reverence and deep care for the vulnerability inherent in seeking support.

Are you experiencing problems with addiction? Do you have trouble handling depression, trauma, and anxiety? I would like to be your guide in becoming sober and healing. As a experienced clinician, I recognize those that struggle with mental health and addiction are some of the most intelligent and artistic individuals. I am here to walk you through the journey of hope to recovery, however that may look to you.

I have learned the importance of blending evidence-based care with a unique individualized approach tailored to the needs and desires of the individual; therefore, I practice a multi-modal approach that mixes neuroscience and psychology. I have served underprivileged communities, worked with survivors and perpetrators of sexual and gender violence and have specialized training working with addictions, and promoting mind-body wellness.

In the process of learning to love yourself, your body, and others there is no such thing as setbacks. What we think is a setback is a growing point, a learning point to lead us further in our relationship with ourselves and others. I would love to work with you navigating those areas of growth, while also seeing the strengths you already possess. It takes such courage to start looking for help. I will seek to empower you in this process and allow for healing and change.

Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) Therapists

Do I need exposure and response prevention therapy?

Many clients decide to seek help for obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors when these symptoms are distressing enough to disrupt everyday life. Any thoughts or behaviors that cause friction in close relationships are also worth addressing. In addition, the client’s symptoms don’t have to be severe for them to benefit from ERP therapy.

Is exposure and response prevention therapy part of cognitive behavioral therapy?

Exposure and response prevention is one specific type of CBT that focuses on behavioral change in response to triggering stimuli. It is related to exposure therapy but adds an additional component of preventing compulsive and harmful responses.

How long does exposure and response prevention therapy take?

While every patient is different, exposure and response prevention therapy typically lasts around 12 sessions, although some treatments can take longer. A therapist will determine if the treatment is complete based on how the client faces their fears, particularly the strongest ones. When a client feels less anxiety about stimuli that once evoked terror or distress, that is generally an indication that they are nearing the end of ERP therapy.

What are the limitations of exposure and response prevention therapy?

The most common pitfalls of exposure and response prevention therapy include not addressing a client’s core fears, allowing the client to avoid their most distressing stimuli, and using imaginary exposure when the client requires real-life exposure (and vice versa). ERP therapy is most effective when the client commits to the full course of treatment; if the client stops early or doesn’t practice what they have learned outside of therapy sessions, they are less likely to have successful outcomes.
