I also have extensive training in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Prolonged exposure (PE), as well as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) techniques.
I try to create a light-hearted and non-judgemental environment that allows individuals to build confidence and autonomy while gaining back control over mental health struggles. It's important to me that people feel supported as they navigate a journey of personal growth. Oftentimes, people are nervous to share thoughts or worries they have had for years without talking to someone about it. I challenge people to take the risk to open up and work to solve difficulties that have come up, to make enjoying life just a little bit easier.

When people enter a time in their life or a situation where they may feel down, worried, overwhelmed, or without many options, I believe therapy can shed light on new paths. Using Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), I help people gain a sense of control by teaching them effective ways to communicate, regulate their emotions, and improve interpersonal relationships to bring about needed change. I work collaboratively with my clients and their families so they can improve their quality of life and thrive.

Hello! Let me congratulate you on taking the first step towards your-self discovery and personal healing. I understand how challenging it is to find a therapist who will honor, respect, and value the often private and personal information you share in session. I believe in providing clients space to feel safe enough to unpack suppressed emotions and thoughts while gently offering insights to how their patterns might be counterintuitive to the goals they want. The fundamentals of my practice include being genuine, compassionate, empowerment of others, unbiased, no judgments, and being scientifically sound.

My approach to therapy is integrative and through a trauma-informed and multicultural lens. I respect and have deep appreciation for clients who invite me into their lives allowing me to witness their truth: the past traumas that inform their current perspectives; the ongoing struggles with racism, colonialism, and prejudice; and the hopes and dreams they continue to cultivate despite all of life’s challenges.

Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) Therapists

Do I need exposure and response prevention therapy?

Many clients decide to seek help for obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors when these symptoms are distressing enough to disrupt everyday life. Any thoughts or behaviors that cause friction in close relationships are also worth addressing. In addition, the client’s symptoms don’t have to be severe for them to benefit from ERP therapy.

Is exposure and response prevention therapy part of cognitive behavioral therapy?

Exposure and response prevention is one specific type of CBT that focuses on behavioral change in response to triggering stimuli. It is related to exposure therapy but adds an additional component of preventing compulsive and harmful responses.

How long does exposure and response prevention therapy take?

While every patient is different, exposure and response prevention therapy typically lasts around 12 sessions, although some treatments can take longer. A therapist will determine if the treatment is complete based on how the client faces their fears, particularly the strongest ones. When a client feels less anxiety about stimuli that once evoked terror or distress, that is generally an indication that they are nearing the end of ERP therapy.

What are the limitations of exposure and response prevention therapy?

The most common pitfalls of exposure and response prevention therapy include not addressing a client’s core fears, allowing the client to avoid their most distressing stimuli, and using imaginary exposure when the client requires real-life exposure (and vice versa). ERP therapy is most effective when the client commits to the full course of treatment; if the client stops early or doesn’t practice what they have learned outside of therapy sessions, they are less likely to have successful outcomes.
