Utilizing CBT, Exposure (ERP), and Existential therapies, clients can explore their awareness of themselves in the present, their emotional experiences, their discomfort, how they choose to be themselves, and how to take responsibility for their lives in ways that help them feel empowered and free.
The weight of being alive, alone, hopeless, or stuck can feel unbearable or suffocating. Often we may feel that we know where we'd like to be in life, but don't know how to get there, or maybe we don't see a future at all. How does one overcome this sense of dread, or make sense from meaninglessness? It is my hope through authentic connections with others, we can discover what it means for each of us to live fully, thoroughly, and well. Conversations begin in an environment in which clients can feel safe, heard, and free to be themselves.

Everyone has mental health and deserves to have a space to learn, grow, and access coping skills in their own mental health journey. I believe that everyone is the expert of their own lives and as a counselor, it is important to work as a team with my clients to reach their own mental health and wellness goals. I believe that all feelings are valid and it is important not only to have these feelings validated by others, but that it is also important to be able to validate our own feelings as well.

It often feels literally impossible to be a human being in the world today. If you feel like your body will never be good enough, “healthy” enough because of how you look, and it’s a matter of will-power for you to solve these problems easily, you’re far from the only one. If your life feels like a cycle of crisis, distress, and maladaptive behaviors, you’re not alone either. If you identify with one or both of the previous sentences, we will have plenty to talk about. Together we can figure out what’s most important to you, how to get it, and remove obstacles one at a time. Let’s start uncovering just how “enough” you already are!

When I entered the counseling profession over twenty-five years ago, my desire was to help people adjust to some of life's challenges and setbacks, while finding meaning and purpose. The therapeutic relationship is a safe venue in which one’s goals, whether life coaching, healing and recovery, improving relationships, or enhancing life satisfaction can be realized. My excitement for assisting people to develop meaningful goals for fulfillment in their life situation remains a passion. I work with children, adolescents, adults of all ages, and families to improve the quality of their lives.

Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) Therapists
Do I need exposure and response prevention therapy?
Many clients decide to seek help for obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors when these symptoms are distressing enough to disrupt everyday life. Any thoughts or behaviors that cause friction in close relationships are also worth addressing. In addition, the client’s symptoms don’t have to be severe for them to benefit from ERP therapy.
Is exposure and response prevention therapy part of cognitive behavioral therapy?
Exposure and response prevention is one specific type of CBT that focuses on behavioral change in response to triggering stimuli. It is related to exposure therapy but adds an additional component of preventing compulsive and harmful responses.
How long does exposure and response prevention therapy take?
While every patient is different, exposure and response prevention therapy typically lasts around 12 sessions, although some treatments can take longer. A therapist will determine if the treatment is complete based on how the client faces their fears, particularly the strongest ones. When a client feels less anxiety about stimuli that once evoked terror or distress, that is generally an indication that they are nearing the end of ERP therapy.
What are the limitations of exposure and response prevention therapy?
The most common pitfalls of exposure and response prevention therapy include not addressing a client’s core fears, allowing the client to avoid their most distressing stimuli, and using imaginary exposure when the client requires real-life exposure (and vice versa). ERP therapy is most effective when the client commits to the full course of treatment; if the client stops early or doesn’t practice what they have learned outside of therapy sessions, they are less likely to have successful outcomes.
