Hello and welcome to my page! I believe that all individuals are capable of healing and growth with the help of an understanding, compassionate, and supportive therapist. Therapy is a vulnerable process and I strive to provide an environment where my client feels safe. I also believe that insight alone is not enough for change to occur and therefore I bring experiential work into the room, often engaging the body and somatic experience in our work. My approach to therapy integrates Attachment Theory, Psychodynamic Theory, Emotion-Focused Therapy, Experiential Therapy, and Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP).

Although I specialise in sex and porn addiction treatment, my work encompasses more than just helping my clients stop their self-destructive behaviours. Of course, sexual sobriety is crucial for therapeutic progress, but I have found that healing the childhood neglect and abuse that--without exception--underlie the development of a sexual addiction is also essential if the individual is to have the truly transformative recovery he or she deserves. I aspire to offer patience, empathy, expertise, and loving, respectful care to my clients, which I hope they experience from me in our work together.

I believe that prioritizing yourself in this way, seeking help when you need it, is an act of true strength. Long before I became a therapist, I was a client and it’s never lost on me what an act of radical and beautiful bravery it is to blindly trust someone to walk with you through this investment in yourself. I don’t take the therapeutic relationship or your trust in me as a therapist lightly. My goal is to help you develop sustainable skills to best manage the ups, downs, and in-betweens.

My primary modalities are EMDR and Internal Family Systems (IFS). I've worked with trauma and injustice for many years, and I recognize the courage it takes to trust another person with the most vulnerable parts of yourself. In my office, I strive to provide a therapeutic space where all parts feel welcome, where you can experience something radically different and practice new and courageous ways of relating to yourself and to others. I've successfully helped teenagers, adults and couples experience healing from trauma and unresolved events, peace from anxiety and acceptance in times of grief.

As a therapist, I value clients who are ready to embark on a journey of self-discovery and growth. It takes courage to take that first step, and I am here to support you throughout the process. My therapeutic style is grounded in a relational, solution-focused approach, which means I prioritize creating a non-judgmental and supportive space where clients feel heard, seen, and understood. I believe that each individual has a unique story, and it is my role to honor and validate that story through narrative therapy. I believe that individuals hold a great deal of expertise about their own lives. Psychotherapy is not a process of prescription, but rather one of co-exploration. In my view, a therapeutic alliance grounded in empathy, curiosity, and shared purpose can be the site of profound healing and insight generation.

Experiential Therapy

How does experiential therapy work?

Experiential therapy works by allowing an individual to use their creativity to re-imagine themselves and their lives in an effort to process their emotions. Experiential therapy may take many forms, including engaging clients through art, re-enactments, role-playing, music, or forms of physical recreation. By focusing on these activities, experiential therapists help individuals identify the emotions they associate with previous experiences and work together to cope with negative reactions, like fear, anger, or shame.

Is experiential therapy evidence-based?

Experiential therapy incorporates many therapy modalities, some of which have been more closely researched than others. Music therapy, for example, has been shown to help with sleep problems. Some studies find that art therapy can be beneficial for those with eating disorders or personality disorders, while other research suggests that such approaches have little impact.

How long does experiential therapy last?

The duration of experiential therapy will depend on the type of therapy used as well as the severity of the challenges an individual faces. Play therapy sessions may last for 30 to 45 minutes, and usually occur weekly for about 20 sessions. Art therapy may comprise 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Music therapy sessions generally last between 30 and 50 minutes and can be scheduled weekly or on an as-needed basis. For each therapy type, clients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

Does experiential therapy help with trauma?

Trauma is one area where experiential therapy may be useful. Traumatic experiences such as combat or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating visual art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. Listening to music can be relaxing, while making music as part of a group provides plenty of opportunities to connect with other people. Play therapy is often of value to children who have experienced a loss or distressing family experience, or who have been physically or emotionally abused.
