I utilize a range of therapeutic approaches, including existential, and, if you wish, a gentle willingness to wrestle with spiritual issues.
I believe therapy to be a creative and dynamic process, one that explores and honors your inherent wisdom, expertise and intuition about life. My part in your journey is to support, encourage and sometimes gently challenge you to see clearly the truth about your history and its relationship to your current struggles. I strive to be attuned to issues of injustice including those related to: class, race, gender, sexual orientation and religious oppression. This endeavor called therapy is best served when we knit it together with mystery, stories, poetry and laughter.

I have experience working with a wide variety of people exploring major life transitions, identity evolution, and issues including depression, anxiety, shame, break-ups, divorce, imposter syndrome, career questions, self-esteem, addiction, quarter-life crises, mid-life crises, covert (negative) narcissism, ADHD and existential explorations.
My style is to support you in connecting with and understanding your deepest agendas and to facilitate the expansion of your capacity to live authentically, with all the parts of yourself. Many people have an intuition of when it's time to make changes, but are uncertain about how to do this, or where to begin. I'll help you generate the right conditions for change by first working to thoroughly understand your inner landscape, and what it’s like to be you. I'll assist you in refining your own instruction manual, find a useful balance between self-acceptance and self-discipline, and live a life with more self-compassion.

I use a combination of behavioral and existential therapies (ACT, CBT, ERP, Gestalt, etc.
I see clients remotely and have evening openings until 8pm! I treat everything from stress, life changes, and the search for meaning and happiness to addiction (alcohol and other use disorders), anxiety disorders, specific phobias, and depressive disorders. The change factor in therapy varies. Sometimes we are too stuck in our own thinking or are lost in our emotions. Sometimes we flee from pain, and sometimes we need to create new meaning. Change occurs when we risk navigating our inner and outer worlds differently, and repeat this process until it becomes second-nature. This isn't easy, and takes time, but is very doable.

Life hands us many experiences, why walk through it alone. Things beyond your control, struggling with internal experiences, or have a desire for self growth? Together we can identify what's contributing to things as they currently are and work to shift beyond barriers and develop aspects that build a greater sense of life satisfaction. How can we grow if we do not have new experiences and possibilities? Therapy can provide just that.

I believe individuals’ thoughts, beliefs, behaviors, and bodily sensations need to be brought into our awareness, as insight is essential for change. I also believe that humans want to find purpose and meaning in their lives, that most people want to feel loved, validated, and that their needs are being met. When these are not present, unhelpful thoughts and behaviors, such as avoidance or negative self-talk can arise and cause distress in our lives. I use cognitive behavioral therapy, narrative therapy, and the therapeutic relationship as tools for alleviating symptoms and supporting other goals of healing.

Too often we get caught up in worrying about things we cannot control, yet don't know where to start in making a change in the right direction. Perhaps you're noticing more conflict in your relationships? Maybe you know what you'd like to be different in your life, but feel stuck or paralyzed in taking the first step? Or possibly, there are things you experienced growing up and you just can't seem to 'let it go.' As your therapist, I will take the time to get to know and understand your experiences, areas of stuckness, and overwhelm, as we work together to create meaningful changes.

Existential Therapists

How does existential therapy work?

Existential therapy focuses on a patient’s inner experiences. The therapist tries to help the individual comprehend and alleviate symptoms by exploring their interior life. By confronting negative disquiet and emotions, the individual will hopefully become more open to finding meaning and purpose. This therapy can be administered to individuals or groups.

Is existential therapy evidence-based?

Existential therapy is an evidence-based practice. Research has determined that existential therapy can lead to significant improvement in the mental health of patients, and for some people it can be just as effective as cognitive behavioral therapy. The benefits of existential therapy are enduring, even long after treatment has ended.

How long does existential therapy last?

The goal of existential therapy is to understand a person’s internal experiences, which may sound like a lengthy process, but it does not have to be so in-depth. However, sessions are not short-term, and therapy can continue for months or up to a year. And because patients learn the theory behind existential therapy during treatment, they can also practice its tenets throughout life after therapy sessions have been completed.

Is existential therapy effective?

According to research, many patients find success with existential therapy. Researchers note that the therapy is particularly useful in improving feelings of isolation, feelings of purposelessness, as well as conditions such as anxiety and depression. Improvements in problem areas can persist even after the end of existential therapy, as individuals can continue working on themselves by using the tools they’ve developed during treatment.
