My approach draws on Lacanian theory and practice, but I am also trained in and have a background in Jungian psychology, Relational psychoanalysis, and existential psychotherapy.
I am a licensed psychologist who is trained in psychodynamic psychotherapy. Patients who come to me are looking to understand the significance and meaning of their most difficult-to-solve problems—problems like anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relational struggles, and self-harm. They are often patients who have not had success with short-term and/or cognitive therapies, and they have a sense that their struggles signify something more than mere dysfunction—that their problems point to something unique and unknown about themselves.

I work with adults and couples, providing depth-oriented therapy that draws from primarily psychodynamic, humanistic, mindfulness, and existential therapies.
Life can make us feel unsettled in our surroundings, uncertain in our relationships, or unfulfilled with who we are. We may lose ourselves and wonder how to find ourselves again. Therapy can be used in many ways – to explore, to question, to heal, and to grow. It can create space for all facets of life to be experienced openly. I believe that the relationship we build together fosters an opportunity to shift your understanding of yourself, allowing room for movement in your life.

I love helping clients who feel stuck with anxiety, depression, or trauma become “unstuck.” In my therapy space, I strive to create a supportive environment for people to explore their emotions – and the experiences that shaped those emotions. With individuals, couples, and families, I work collaboratively to understand how previous dynamics, especially with families of origin, contribute to their current thoughts and coping skills. When clients understand how their past relationships influence their current selves, they are better able to build new futures, with greater self-acceptance, growth, new skills, and overall happiness.

At work, you know you’re underpaid, yet still go above and beyond for employers and colleagues who don’t appreciate it. At home, you’re the one expected to manage things and keep up with chores, while your partner only contributes when they’re directly asked. If you have kids, you feel guilty about ever needing a break. Though you think you “should” be able to handle all of this, the cumulative exhaustion you feel from a lifetime of taking on more than you have time or energy for is starting to show. Let me assure you that not only is it okay to admit you’re having a tough time — it’s the first step in actually feeling better.

The demands of school, work, family and social relationships can be overwhelming for people of all ages. Societal pressures may add to our stress. We all need support as we navigate the different stages of our lives. We can get stuck, feel very low, or become increasingly anxious along the way. Children and adolescents may express or cope with these difficult emotions with troubling behavior. Parents often feel helpless or lost trying to support their children. Individual and family psychotherapy can help us better understand and manage our emotions, increase our sense of worth and control, and live a more fulfilling life.

You might be experiencing some struggles or so-called "symptoms." It could be depression, anxiety, feelings of inadequacy, trauma, relationship difficulties, challenges in certain life circumstances, or your own unique situation. I am naturally upbeat, enthusiastic and totally invested in motivating individuals to challenge negative thinking and embrace their potential through the lens of quantum mechanics. As a way to engage my patients in their own recovery process they will learn mindfulness and meditation techniques in order to access their capacity to heal physically and emotionally. I embrace the techniques of energy psychology and support Joe Dispenza's work in self-healing. I am well suited for those who desire the skills to cope with life's challenges and fully understand and that we are the creators of our life and that which we manifest.

Going to therapy implies the courage to question ourselves and face the challenges that get in the way of self-acceptance. Our lives change and we often struggle to change with it. I believe therapy can be a transformative encounter that allows a different experience of ourselves. As a native Spanish-English speaker, I provide a culturally sensitive approach to therapy and am mindful of race, gender, sexuality, and class intersections. My background and my current role as a clinician at Harvard University Counseling and Mental Health Services have allowed me to work with patients from all over the world.

I specialize in helping men, women, artists, business and trades people, as well as adult children of alcoholics restore diminished or lost connections to their poietic capacity. The word poiesis is from ancient Greek, meaning to make, or to bring forth. In my work, I refer to it as meaning one’s creative capacity to respond to and shape one’s life - as well as one’s capacity to create things i.e. art, woodwork, poetry, a relationship, a mindfulness practice, a career, a garden, etc. When we are overwhelmed, our mental health can suffer, sometimes making it difficult for us to respond to life's challenges in a way that works for us.

Existential Therapists

How does existential therapy work?

Existential therapy focuses on a patient’s inner experiences. The therapist tries to help the individual comprehend and alleviate symptoms by exploring their interior life. By confronting negative disquiet and emotions, the individual will hopefully become more open to finding meaning and purpose. This therapy can be administered to individuals or groups.

Is existential therapy evidence-based?

Existential therapy is an evidence-based practice. Research has determined that existential therapy can lead to significant improvement in the mental health of patients, and for some people it can be just as effective as cognitive behavioral therapy. The benefits of existential therapy are enduring, even long after treatment has ended.

How long does existential therapy last?

The goal of existential therapy is to understand a person’s internal experiences, which may sound like a lengthy process, but it does not have to be so in-depth. However, sessions are not short-term, and therapy can continue for months or up to a year. And because patients learn the theory behind existential therapy during treatment, they can also practice its tenets throughout life after therapy sessions have been completed.

Is existential therapy effective?

According to research, many patients find success with existential therapy. Researchers note that the therapy is particularly useful in improving feelings of isolation, feelings of purposelessness, as well as conditions such as anxiety and depression. Improvements in problem areas can persist even after the end of existential therapy, as individuals can continue working on themselves by using the tools they’ve developed during treatment.
