I use a trauma-informed approach pulling from various theoretical backgrounds including mindfulness practices, existential theory, and person-centered therapy.
If you are struggling with the loss of a loved one, a difficult life transition, or feeling depressed and anxious, I can help. I provide space for you to be seen, be heard, and explore the root causes of the symptoms you're experiencing. My goal is that you feel safe being vulnerable as we explore these aspects of your life together, and that you feel lighter and have direction moving forward.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, and I provide individual holistic psychotherapy and mind-body skills training (guided imagery, meditation, relaxation, mindfulness, etc). In addition to providing counseling using a wellness approach (rather than the medical model), I also use mind-body skills training to help clients move towards personal growth and stress reduction and to better cope with transition and developmental processes. My theoretical approach to counseling is somewhat eclectic, but largely humanistic, existential, and integrative. I work with clients on examining and building upon the whole person holistically.

I have experience with clients struggling with issues such as anxiety, depression, substance use, LGTBQ+ issues, life transitions, anger, trauma, interpersonal relationships, communication and existential fears.
My intention as a therapist is to create a reflective space and to bring you clarity and support. We will explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviors, and together we will consider whether they are working for you. We will expand your awareness of your personal processes and protective patterns, both internally and in relationships and how these play out in your mind and body. With this deeper understanding of your self, we will shift perspective and create more opportunity for choice. My role is to facilitate the removal of barriers that prevent connection to your self and others through a systemic and interpersonal approach.

Guided by a relational/narrative approach to therapy with a systems lens, I view clients as emergent beings who come from communities and stories that can enliven or constrict their sense of self, safety, belonging, and freedom. In a society that encourages isolation and disconnection, I have seen the profound healing that can happen when people feel safe enough to be witnessed and explore through relationship. I work with people who struggle with painful pasts or parts of themselves and aim to create a space where people can move into greater relationship with themselves, their values, and desires.

Integrative mental health care can help you overcome these challenges and live a fuller, more authentic life. The purpose of therapy is to feel better about your life. I listen to you and help you make connections so that you can better see how what you are doing, or have done, has made you unhappy. Sometimes the goal is to just stop hitting your head against a brick wall. Using cognitive behavioral therapy, genograms, and psychotherapy I will help you towards a sense of well-being and improved personal relationships. There’s no need to feel ashamed of your past. Better to understand your past, to reframe it and to turn the page. Visit the website at theratique.com to learn more.

We all have problems, habits and "quirks" of personality and wonder sometimes when life gets rough, whether we need therapy or if it would be a good option. I can help. I believe that each individual is creative and unique and that there is no "one" way to be happy or live life. For New Orleans I offer virtual, telehealth appointments & EMDR and Gottman Relationship Counseling.

Existential Therapists

How does existential therapy work?

Existential therapy focuses on a patient’s inner experiences. The therapist tries to help the individual comprehend and alleviate symptoms by exploring their interior life. By confronting negative disquiet and emotions, the individual will hopefully become more open to finding meaning and purpose. This therapy can be administered to individuals or groups.

Is existential therapy evidence-based?

Existential therapy is an evidence-based practice. Research has determined that existential therapy can lead to significant improvement in the mental health of patients, and for some people it can be just as effective as cognitive behavioral therapy. The benefits of existential therapy are enduring, even long after treatment has ended.

How long does existential therapy last?

The goal of existential therapy is to understand a person’s internal experiences, which may sound like a lengthy process, but it does not have to be so in-depth. However, sessions are not short-term, and therapy can continue for months or up to a year. And because patients learn the theory behind existential therapy during treatment, they can also practice its tenets throughout life after therapy sessions have been completed.

Is existential therapy effective?

According to research, many patients find success with existential therapy. Researchers note that the therapy is particularly useful in improving feelings of isolation, feelings of purposelessness, as well as conditions such as anxiety and depression. Improvements in problem areas can persist even after the end of existential therapy, as individuals can continue working on themselves by using the tools they’ve developed during treatment.
