I also regularly utilize narrative, psychodynamic, existential, affirmative, and group therapies in my daily practice.
Do you love video games? Comic books? Dungeons and Dragons? Do feel nervous or afraid all the time? Or sad, disconnected? Have you ever felt like an outcast, misfit, or weirdo? Have you ever asked yourself "Is any of this even real?" or "Am I an NPC?" If so, you may have just found your therapist. I work with geeks, nerds, dorks, and dweebs, LGBTQIA folx, the Kink and Polyamory/ENM communities and people of all cultures and spiritualities. So let's play Minecraft while you process, write fanfic about overcoming adversity, or if you're brave, use Dark Souls to practice coping with big emotions. Makes therapy sound kinda fun, right?

You watch everyone pass you by from the outside the crowd. They seem so comfortable in their own skin. Life is so easy for them. "So what’s wrong with me?" Your brain's a chaotic mess. Thoughts overlap and blur together, making concentrating or finding peace impossible. Navigating your social life feels like walking through a minefield. The world is full of rules that you never learned. You’ve accomplished a lot in life but happiness eludes you. "Is this normal?" you wonder. An ADHD/autism self-diagnosis led to hacks that help but it's not enough. You know you could get better if only your brain would let you.

Here are some of the areas I am passionate about serving: identity exploration, LGBTQ+, chronic disability/ invisible illness, polyamorous relationships, existential questions.
My name is Dakota and I provide teletherapy in both the states of Georgia and Florida -- Finding our way through life’s journey can become overwhelming at times. We may reach stages where we feel out-of-touch, out-of-place, and out-of-sync. One method of addressing these bumps on our path is recalibrating how we understand ourselves and others. Learning new ways of handling and adapting to all of life’s changes can be revitalizing. I would be excited to be there with you on your path as a co-journeyer and as a provider of objective, researched-based counseling.

I encourage my clients to spend as much effort on working with their negative and dissociative emotions as they do with their positive ones.

I primarily work with young adults, to early 30s. My work with clients focuses on self discovery; exploring parts, sides, and aspects of Self they have never met before. Our work together is centered around embodiment and connection with the most authentic and genuine Capital-S Self. I work from a mixture of lenses, including systemic and holistic; understanding that every struggle an individual faces does not exist in a vacuum outside of oppressive and controlling systems. Sometimes work with me is deconstructing how these systems have defined and categorized you: who are you in spite of these systems?

"Real healing can begin only when we finally learn to be present in the places where we have been absent." So many of us find ourselves repeating patterns of behavior we consciously experience a desire to let go of. What keeps us stuck is that we are disconnected from the places within us where our actions come from. My work with clients focuses on uncovering truth, with compassion and without judgment. My approach to therapy centers on the belief that "healing is making whole." Attention is, therefore, given to the whole of the individual: mind, heart, body and soul.

Existential Therapists

How does existential therapy work?

Existential therapy focuses on a patient’s inner experiences. The therapist tries to help the individual comprehend and alleviate symptoms by exploring their interior life. By confronting negative disquiet and emotions, the individual will hopefully become more open to finding meaning and purpose. This therapy can be administered to individuals or groups.

Is existential therapy evidence-based?

Existential therapy is an evidence-based practice. Research has determined that existential therapy can lead to significant improvement in the mental health of patients, and for some people it can be just as effective as cognitive behavioral therapy. The benefits of existential therapy are enduring, even long after treatment has ended.

How long does existential therapy last?

The goal of existential therapy is to understand a person’s internal experiences, which may sound like a lengthy process, but it does not have to be so in-depth. However, sessions are not short-term, and therapy can continue for months or up to a year. And because patients learn the theory behind existential therapy during treatment, they can also practice its tenets throughout life after therapy sessions have been completed.

Is existential therapy effective?

According to research, many patients find success with existential therapy. Researchers note that the therapy is particularly useful in improving feelings of isolation, feelings of purposelessness, as well as conditions such as anxiety and depression. Improvements in problem areas can persist even after the end of existential therapy, as individuals can continue working on themselves by using the tools they’ve developed during treatment.
