Living life is a journey, much like a marathon compared to a sprint. Throughout our journey, we seek to live a healthy, happy, and long purposeful life. Unfortunately, the journey is often altered or halted by life transitions, circumstances, and obstacles. To achieve goals of happiness, health and wellness, individuals may need a little support to prevent further derailment and help getting back on track to living on purpose.

Maybe you are an adult, teen or child struggling with life challenges, difficulty managing emotions, behaviors or negative thoughts, lacking support or have an abusive family or relationship. You might be a mom (or a dad) experiencing depression or anxiety during pregnancy or after your child's birth. Or maybe you are feeling so overwhelmed and in pain that you can't see a way through and are considering suicide. Deciding to try therapy can be a life changing or life saving decision. Making a commitment to doing the work of therapy with the guidance and support of a therapist can lead to amazing results. If I can help, let me know!

Well done! You’ve taken an important first step toward wellness. By seeking a therapist, you demonstrate courage, strength and readiness to claim the happiness and peace you deserve. The first step of any journey can feel daunting, but you have already begun! Whether you struggle from anxiety, depression, relationship conflict, grief, or just a sense of feeling “off,” there is freedom from these burdens. Emotional or psychological stress can make us feel misunderstood and alone. The good news is, no matter how overwhelmed you feel, no matter how chaotic your circumstances are, you can take control over your emotional health.

Sexuality is so challenging to talk about for most people that getting to the point where you are online this minute searching for a therapist comfortable talking about it with you is a major success. Even if you get no further than this sentence right now, you have already overcome a monumental hurdle, you will be able to do it again, and your next search will be easier. The path to sexual fulfillment can be grueling to navigate alone, and I am happy to explore whatever is on your mind regarding your sexuality, be it pleasure challenges, trauma, sexual or gender identity, non-monogamy, kink, addiction, and everything in between.

It takes courage and strength to enter therapy and it is important to find a good match with your therapist. I will treat you as a human being, not a number or diagnosis. Sessions with me will be a conversation and I will be myself in our sessions. At times, I might make you laugh; when we are talking about hard things, you might cry. But this will always be toward the goal of helping you reach a better place. As a seasoned practitioner with over 25 years' experience, I use strategies that include CBT, DBT, Mindfulness and other concepts to help you reach your best potential.

Life is ever changing with many unexpected issues that can lead to misalignment, and discord. However, "being well through the changes" is key to a sound mind, body, and spirit. I believe that when one seek counseling, it is due to an awareness that one is out of alignment. I am a spiritually driven and professionally trained Clinical Mental Health Counselor and Marriage and Family Therapist; licensed as a Professional Counselor, working for over 20 years. My duality of nationalities of being born in Guyana, South America and raised in New York, USA, gives me a realistic view of life, its challenges, and ability to transcend.

One size never fits all. Each person and issue needs its own caring approach. Therapy includes: DBT, cognitive-behavioral, family systems, internal family systems, and trauma work, all with acceptance, warmth, and healing. Gains rely on maximum challenge with maximum support. I have successfully struggled in my life as a son, husband, and father of four. I know the pain of being wounded and the rewards of healing. For over 50 years I have helped kids and families as a teacher, school counselor, therapist, and supervising professor in three graduate counseling programs, including the Captains' Masters at the USMA at West Point.

Existential Therapists

How does existential therapy work?

Existential therapy focuses on a patient’s inner experiences. The therapist tries to help the individual comprehend and alleviate symptoms by exploring their interior life. By confronting negative disquiet and emotions, the individual will hopefully become more open to finding meaning and purpose. This therapy can be administered to individuals or groups.

Is existential therapy evidence-based?

Existential therapy is an evidence-based practice. Research has determined that existential therapy can lead to significant improvement in the mental health of patients, and for some people it can be just as effective as cognitive behavioral therapy. The benefits of existential therapy are enduring, even long after treatment has ended.

How long does existential therapy last?

The goal of existential therapy is to understand a person’s internal experiences, which may sound like a lengthy process, but it does not have to be so in-depth. However, sessions are not short-term, and therapy can continue for months or up to a year. And because patients learn the theory behind existential therapy during treatment, they can also practice its tenets throughout life after therapy sessions have been completed.

Is existential therapy effective?

According to research, many patients find success with existential therapy. Researchers note that the therapy is particularly useful in improving feelings of isolation, feelings of purposelessness, as well as conditions such as anxiety and depression. Improvements in problem areas can persist even after the end of existential therapy, as individuals can continue working on themselves by using the tools they’ve developed during treatment.
