I work with clients from a holistic, existential perspective rather than focusing on the symptoms with integration of forward-facing therapy (FFT).
I have specialized training and education working with clinical trauma & crisis, military culture & family, telemental health, and compassion fatigue & burnout. I have been working in this field for over 15 years and still find the most rewarding work to be when I watch clients grow and develop into the person they want to become. However, it all begins with a strong, honest, open therapeutic relationship to create change and live more authentically. My expertise, experience, and competence allow me to help clients struggling with a variety of issues, such as trauma, anxiety, depression, anger, or OCD, and facilitate change.

I enjoy working with people in early recovery and those struggling with existential issues (aging, loss, and death anxiety).
Currently accepting new clients on Tues & Sun. Are you tired of people trying to cheer you up and having your depression misunderstood? Have you lost your sense of gratitude and engagement in life? If so, I'm glad you're here. I focus on deep depression and the issues that commonly surround it (suicidality, grief, anxiety, and substance abuse). While there are many effective "techniques" that improve depression and weaken its allies, therapy is a special kind of healing relationship more than a set of techniques. If the partnership is good, we can learn from each other and find a new way forward for you.

I often utilizes depth psychology and existential approaches to help you see your life and yourself in a healthy way.
Please come see me even if you have tried therapy many times but still haven't given up on healing! My goal as a therapist is to have a large bag of tools for you so that we can find a technique that you respond to best. I love working with creative people, people who are suffering from anxiety, depression, conflict, people who have chronic pain despite medication adherence and people who are just plain confused about why they feel the way they do. I don't believe that any one approach works for every person, and want to work with you collaboratively to find out what it is that you need for your unique life story.

I adapt my approach to each client while working within a person-centered and existential framework.
As a therapist, I bring a unique and inclusive perspective to my practice, one that is deeply rooted in my own identity as a queer individual and my commitment to being welcoming to individuals who are on the Gender, Sex and Relationship Diversity (GSRD) spectrum. I am knowledgeable in kink dynamics, queer relationship issues, and consensual nonmonogamy practices. In a world that often misunderstands or stigmatizes individuals on the GSRD spectrum, I am dedicated to providing a safe and non-judgmental environment where clients can explore their desires, express themselves authentically, and seek support for any related challenges.

I integrate concepts from solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT), rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT), DBT-informed therapy, and existential therapy to provide a customized counseling experience based on the unique needs of each client.
My approach is ideal for clients who are interested in actively creating a joyful life. I think of the counseling process as a journey, and on the road of life you are in charge of choosing your own destination, mapping out possible routes, and driving the bus. My role as a therapist is to serve as a neutral sounding board, to encourage you to approach your journey with curiosity, and to teach the skills necessary to remain mindful of your feelings, to use your values to guide personal choices, and to reframe unhelpful thoughts while honoring your experiences. Also, like any good copilot, I will occasionally provide snacks.

I encourage you to take the brave step of reaching out if you are experiencing stress, depression, anxiety, anger, grief, self-esteem issues, existential questions, trauma, problems in your relationships, or if you desire to increase your coping skills to meet the many difficulties that come our way in life.
Life brings about many issues that we often want help working through. Irvin Yalom wrote “it’s the relationship that heals," and I aim to build a strong therapeutic alliance with each of my clients in a safe, warm, and empathic environment where we will work together to determine your specific goals for therapy, identify strategies to make your desired changes, heal wounds, increase your coping skills, and improve your overall health.

Emotional pain can leave us feeling anxious, depressed, and overwhelmed but I have great news! There is a path, a way out, for you to heal and experience peace and joy. You do not have to suffer anymore, white-knuckling it through most days, feeling hopeless and too broken to heal while wondering if your life will ever be fulfilling. I understand the dark nights of despair and how hard it is to reach out. So, I find you to be courageous, right here and now – taking a step to figure out if I can help. And the answer is ‘absolutely!’

Hi friend! I am glad you are here. The process of deciding you want to seek out a therapist can be difficult enough on its own, let alone the actual process of sorting through all your options, trying to find the best one for you. If you have made it this far, welcome! My name is Jessica, but most people call me Jess. I believe in collaboration; in two people coming together to figure out how to live better, more holistic lives. I believe in authenticity and being your true self. I believe love is love and that everyone on this earth is here for a reason and deserves to be heard and understood.

Many believe expressing your feelings is a sign of weakness, creating a stigma surrounding mental health. However, the exact opposite is true! Knowing when to ask for help shows courage, strength, and wisdom. Physical and emotional health are tightly intertwined. When we know precisely what is wrong, we can face the problem head-on, allowing us to see firsthand that knowledge is power! Evaluation and assessment are KEY.

I believe wholeheartedly that if a person is able to develop an ability to access their own courage, vulnerability, and grace for themselves and others, beautiful therapeutic change can occur. As your therapist, I see my relationship with you as someone who will stand steadfastly beside you in a bond of trust, unconditional positive regard, and empathy as you face the full catastrophe we call “being alive”. Together, we can build a creative and functional toolbox to help you approach life. The goal is for you to thrive through the moments of joy, the in-between, and yes… even in moments of sadness.

Just so you know, my eyes don't see the person you used to be, I only see the person you are fighting to become! This defines the work I do daily with my clients. The willingness to face things you want to change, is all it takes. Fear is expected as change comes, however we can BUILD a toolbox of coping skills to diminish the fear & anxiety you have. I will support you with empathy & compassion along the pathway to healing. Peace does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble or hard work. It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart. Peace in your soul is obtainable, let me help you

As we experience life and components of life that we cannot control, we often experience feelings of uncertainty, concern, fear, anger, and even complacency. Transitioning our perspective can be uncomfortable and even considered inefficient or disruptive to our routine. Expanding the support system with additional supportive roles during this time of redevelopment can strengthen relationships, improve productivity, increase confidence, and most importantly empower ourselves.

Existential Therapists

How does existential therapy work?

Existential therapy focuses on a patient’s inner experiences. The therapist tries to help the individual comprehend and alleviate symptoms by exploring their interior life. By confronting negative disquiet and emotions, the individual will hopefully become more open to finding meaning and purpose. This therapy can be administered to individuals or groups.

Is existential therapy evidence-based?

Existential therapy is an evidence-based practice. Research has determined that existential therapy can lead to significant improvement in the mental health of patients, and for some people it can be just as effective as cognitive behavioral therapy. The benefits of existential therapy are enduring, even long after treatment has ended.

How long does existential therapy last?

The goal of existential therapy is to understand a person’s internal experiences, which may sound like a lengthy process, but it does not have to be so in-depth. However, sessions are not short-term, and therapy can continue for months or up to a year. And because patients learn the theory behind existential therapy during treatment, they can also practice its tenets throughout life after therapy sessions have been completed.

Is existential therapy effective?

According to research, many patients find success with existential therapy. Researchers note that the therapy is particularly useful in improving feelings of isolation, feelings of purposelessness, as well as conditions such as anxiety and depression. Improvements in problem areas can persist even after the end of existential therapy, as individuals can continue working on themselves by using the tools they’ve developed during treatment.
