I am a North Carolina licensed professional counselor. I have over 14 years of experience providing therapy for adolescents and adults. Since I am currently only doing video counseling it will be important to consult with me briefly to determine if this will be a good fit for both us. I incorporate my training of mindfulness, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and expressive therapy (art therapy) to help my clients in reducing anxiety and emotional distress, and thus improving understanding and self-awareness.

Sometimes life creates change when we aren't ready. You may find that life transitions have left you feeling differently than you expected, or you're discovering things about yourself that you aren't sure what to do with. Sometimes loved ones change in ways that challenge us, and sometimes we grow and hope our loved ones will grow with us. Sometimes LGBTQIA+ identities have specific needs, particularly for couples and families adjusting to newly expressed identities and searching for a healthy, supportive dynamic. Unfortunately, coping with these unexpected changes usually isn't a smooth, easy, or pretty process.

*I AM NOT CURENTLY TAKING NEW CLIENTS* I have a relational approach to therapy and my work is informed by psychodynamic theories. I believe that long-term growth and change become a reality when we are able to make informed choices and discover greater authenticity in our daily lives. I believe that you can find immediate relief from some of your distress by using mindfulness and cognitive-behavioral techniques. I have experience working with groups and individuals with mood and anxiety difficulties, personality disorders, histories of violence or trauma, and anger management difficulties.

*Please know that I am not currently able to accept new clients.* I work with clients ages 14-40; I especially enjoy helping adolescents and young adults explore and resolve questions of identity, navigate periods of transition, manage anxiety, and heal from traumatic experiences. I also enjoy working with couples who are navigating life transitions, working through conflict, or are simply interested in improving their communication skills and overall relationship quality.

Since the early 1990s I have been offering addictive behavioral counseling based on a sensible and practical cognitive-behavioral approach and SMART® Recovery. I view addictive habits and recovery as learned behaviors/habit patterns. 'Recovery,' stopping the addiction and living comfortably, is something one learns how to do. Stopping addictive habits is a means to an end --increasing satisfaction and enjoyment in one's life and reducing or eliminating self-inflicted discomfort and distress.

You may be saying, "I should be able to deal with problems on my own." Life and other people are so complex that this is usually an unrealistic expectation. Brave people tend to seek therapy because they share their stories with clinicians they don't know and sometimes about sensitive topics. My style is interactive since I believe we work collaboratively to clarify your needs and desires. While I want all clients to be honest and open, you decide what to share about yourself and at what speed.
