Congratulations on taking the first step toward potentially changing your life for the better. Partnering with the right therapist is of primary importance to your healing journey. I have been described as compassionate, authentic, nonjudgmental, and honest, with a well-placed spark of humor. A therapy session with me might be based in person-centered modalities, EMDR, mindfulness, holistic practices (like meditation or hypnotherapy), or whatever you need. I have experience with and truly value working with adolescents, adults, and older adults diverse in gender, race, sexual orientation, and beliefs. All are welcome.

The questions of who am I, where am I going and what does it all mean can produce many challenges for each of us. I try to see the world through the eyes of the clients I work with to develop an action plan to identify goals, solutions and adjustments to help guide the transition of change. I help client’s in a collaborative approach to develop an understanding of self-empowerment and self-efficacy to form a foundation from which to grow. My work with clients involves traditional individual, family, group and couple counseling modalities as well as practical real life applications in a life-coaching setting.

Hi there! Taking the initiative to find a therapist shows you are ready for a change. Whether you have been in therapy before or are just starting the process, I hope to provide you with the support you are looking for. My approach to therapy is trauma-informed and warm, using various modalities such as CBT, IFS or Gottman Methods depending on your goals. Clients I work with are from all different backgrounds across the lifespan but I have a particular passion for working with the LGBTQIA+ community and couples. Many clients start therapy with me when feeling stuck in their current maladaptive coping or relational patterns.

Something horrible happened that never should have happened. You oscillate between actively avoiding thinking about it and blaming yourself, even though you know it’s not your fault. You used to be better at avoiding it, but recently the details of the incident are flooding your mind day and night; memories which were once contained are now spilling over. You’re feeling disconnected from yourself and others, even though most people around you think you are fine. Despite your outward success, you feel that you could collapse into a million pieces at any moment and that this is exhausting.

You have taken the first step to explore accepting help/therapy and I welcome the opportunity to meet you and work with you. This has been a very challenging time for us all. The issues which were troubling you: stress in your relationships with family and friends or life changes/separation, divorce, retirement, illness or loss may have intensified during this pandemic. I offer daytime, evening and week-end hours and now with more people getting their vaccinations you may prefer a hybrid model of therapy in my office and telehealth.

I am not a one size fits all therapist with one singular approach for everyone. You are an individual. And as such, I individualize your care. Sometimes that may involve supportive and encouraging techniques. Sometimes challenging and motivational strategies may be what benefits you most. Or perhaps nervous system exploration (such as mindfulness and sensory awareness) to refocus and silence the noise is what may bring you the most relief. I may bring expertise based on education and years of experience as a therapist and a fellow human being, but you are the expert on yourself.

Taking the step to seek therapy can be challenging and overwhelming. It marks the beginning of finding a safe and supportive space to process and work through the obstacles life presents. By exploring your past influences, current patterns, and inner beliefs, we can gain a deeper understanding of yourself and your life.

Existential Therapists

How does existential therapy work?

Existential therapy focuses on a patient’s inner experiences. The therapist tries to help the individual comprehend and alleviate symptoms by exploring their interior life. By confronting negative disquiet and emotions, the individual will hopefully become more open to finding meaning and purpose. This therapy can be administered to individuals or groups.

Is existential therapy evidence-based?

Existential therapy is an evidence-based practice. Research has determined that existential therapy can lead to significant improvement in the mental health of patients, and for some people it can be just as effective as cognitive behavioral therapy. The benefits of existential therapy are enduring, even long after treatment has ended.

How long does existential therapy last?

The goal of existential therapy is to understand a person’s internal experiences, which may sound like a lengthy process, but it does not have to be so in-depth. However, sessions are not short-term, and therapy can continue for months or up to a year. And because patients learn the theory behind existential therapy during treatment, they can also practice its tenets throughout life after therapy sessions have been completed.

Is existential therapy effective?

According to research, many patients find success with existential therapy. Researchers note that the therapy is particularly useful in improving feelings of isolation, feelings of purposelessness, as well as conditions such as anxiety and depression. Improvements in problem areas can persist even after the end of existential therapy, as individuals can continue working on themselves by using the tools they’ve developed during treatment.
