Each client is unique. Crisis, transition, relationship, workplace problems, coming out, depression, anxiety, identity, parenting . . . the list goes on. Nonetheless, the three phrases I'm most accustomed to hearing first are: "I'm completely stuck." "I don't understand why I feel this way." and "I just don't see a way out of this." It is important that we begin exactly where you are. Some of the issues you're bringing to therapy may first need practical attention in order to alleviate your current distress. Subsequently, we'll look for connections to the source of your issues and begin the healing process.
I hold postgraduate certification in therapy with couples, an undergraduate degree in women's studies, ties to the LGBT community, an educated perspective on life transitions, and long experience treating depression. Other areas of special interest include family systems work and the trauma of neglect. I work with clients both straight and gay.
It's my job to help you feel comfortable enough to share. There is no requirement for deep disclosure in an introductory meeting, although ultimately it is a full understanding that heals. I strive to engage you in conversation; this is not simply a Q&A. I seek to understand the broad scope of your issue, and I leave plenty of time for your questions.
