My approach is integrative and contextual with a basic belief in the value of connection and the power of possibility. I provide psychotherapy, clinical supervision, and consultation with specialties in trauma-focused treatments, such as EMDR and clinical hypnosis, in addition to couples and group therapy. I recognize that we are heavily shaped by our relationships, family experiences, and our social location in the world with regard to race, culture, class, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion. I am also a Clinical Supervisor at the Therapy Center of Philadelphia (FKA Women's Therapy Center) and teach courses related to Group Therapy at PCOM and Drexel.

My work pulls from Relational-Cultural and Feminist principles, focusing on therapy relationships being grounded in mutual respect and a sense of shared purpose that provides movement toward clarity, growth, and potential. I offer individual, couples, and group. I offer clinical supervision for licensure in PA. I have office hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays only.

I work from a personal-growth model where my role is that of a partner in holistic healing. I do not typically work from the traditional medical model where problems addressed in therapy are viewed as pathology.

Erin O'Brien's Groups

Process Group for Women Identified Folks

This is a long-term process-oriented group for women identified folks (cisgender, intersex, transfeminine, transgender, and nonbinary). Group focus includes interpersonal relationships, family, attachment patterns, self-worth, life direction, self-care, coping skills, intimacy, loss, gender identity oppression, cis and hetero sexism, and trauma. Connections built among group members offer a unique opportunity to bring awareness to how we function in interpersonal relationships. Goals of group include developing new ways of seeking/maintaining connection and noticing what gets in the way. Members commit for a period of time. Confidentiality is maintained to ensure group safety and cohesion.

Process Group for New Clinicians & Grad Students

As clinicians who are new to psychotherapy practice, we may not have had the opportunity to experience therapy for ourselves in our clinical training. Typically this aspect of the therapeutic dynamic is left up to us to prioritize. We may have unfinished business to address or perhaps we would like to experience the therapeutic process from both sides. Since we are the instrument and therapy is about the relationship, this group offers a unique opportunity to become more aware of the therapeutic impact of how we function interpersonally. Special focus on the Self of the Therapist. This group counts toward hours for licensure in PA.
