Dr. Erin Harris is a clinical psychologist who works from a psychoanalytic/psychodynamic framework. Dr. Harris further emphasizes the disconnect between the individual's needs and the way they have thus far lived their lives. This is a critical piece in understanding how the patient might repeatedly undermine themselves and unconsciously self-sabotage.
In order to change what is currently not working for an individual, intervention must happen on the behavioral level. However, until the function and origins of such behaviors and specifically, the thoughts, feelings and experiences of the individual are fully understood, we cannot truly effect change.
