Hello, my name is Eric Rennacker, I am a licensed marriage and family therapist and for the last 10 years, I have been working with people in recovery from addiction. Trauma is the gateway to substance abuse and I am EMDR certified. I am also in recovery myself having 37 years of sobriety, I know how hard recovery is. I meet people where they are in their lives using a humanistic approach of unconditional acceptance as I believe the therapeutic relationship that can be created between client and therapist is the foundation for what can be difficult work.
I work with clients who come to therapy with dual diagnoses, sometimes these are primary substance abuse-focused clients and sometimes I see clients who are primary mental health clients. My experience is that underlying trauma and attachment issues are very much contributing factors in addiction and require careful attention in treatment.
I am told that I am very easygoing and low-key. I am curious by nature and interested in creating a collaborative relationship with my clients, understanding that they are the experts on themselves. I allow my clients to identify what it is that has brought them to therapy and then collaborate with them on how treatment will proceed.
