I believe that everyone has the ability to heal from trauma, and experience the beauty of personal growth from difficult life experiences. When we experience trauma and/or chronic stress, we often become disconnected from ourselves, from others, and from the world around us. Our work together can help you reconnect to yourself, improve interpersonal relationships and learn to be present in the moment. My goal is to help you become more resilient, so that you feel comfortable enough to process your past, and confident enough to navigate difficult life events.

I have experience working with individuals and families affected by interpersonal trauma, and am familiar with the systems that serve children that have experienced abuse.
Life transitions, unexpected changes, and traumatic events can impact our sense of self: what we believe about who we are, how we show up in the world, and how we interact with others. As a therapist, my goal is to provide an empowering, nurturing environment in which to discover a path towards healing, growth, and a more authentic connection with one’s self and with others, particularly following traumatic events. I strive to be affirming of the experiences of clients in the LGBTQ community, as well as other culturally marginalized and/or oppressed communities, and strive to meet clients wherever they are in their journey.

Any therapy with me focuses on interpersonal relationships.
I am the "bookends therapist". I help clients and families with the beginning-of-life (0-10 years old) and end-of-life (65-100 years old) mental health challenges. Beginning-of-life counseling clients seek support for navigating early developmental challenges, family dynamics, and emotional regulation. End-of-life counseling (65-100 years old) seeks support in navigating retirement, aging, and finding purpose in later life. They aim to address existential concerns, foster family connections with parents or adult children, and prepare for the end-of-life transition after a family member passes.

I use a sensitive, interpersonal approach to build a strong therapeutic relationship in which safety and trust may be established as an important foundation for a positive psychotherapeutic experience.
I enjoy working with a wide range of populations, including children, adolescents, adults, and families. I have a particular passion for working with young people transitioning from adolescence into college through their emergence into young adulthood. I also find great reward in working with clients who have complex backgrounds with long histories of chronic psychological distress and relationship problems.

I love interpersonal relations, and identity & self-exploration.
Those I serve often have lifelong trauma, aware or not, visible or the invisible, insidious type that begins forming very early, & may have received a BPD diagnosis ion early adulthood (and shunned by mental health) or maybe they wish they had a diagnosis to explain what they feel. That’s a sentiment shared by my adults with ADHD, specifically women. It’s hard to name the unrest, the sensory stuff, the feeling of something not being right, & over half of women with ADHD received a diagnosis in adulthood. My clients want to know themselves, understand their experiences, & learn real-life skills to create their life worth living.

I specialize in trauma recovery and, for almost two decades, I’ve been helping people recover from sexual abuse/assault, combat & first responder trauma, childhood abuse, interpersonal violence, discrimination, and/or grief & loss.
I believe in people's ability to heal and grow after difficult experiences. However, it can be hard to know where to start, who to trust, or what might be helpful. Maybe you experience depression or anxiety, suffer from the consequences of trauma and chronic pain, or would like to repair and strengthen your romantic relationship. Regardless of your life’s journey and obstacles, treatment can help! As a psychologist with a holistic and integrative approach, I utilize evidence-based treatments (the gold standard), while also incorporating other helpful tools depending on your unique concerns.

Believing that people are influenced and nurtured during early primary relationships, I consider it an honor to partner with parents and significant caregivers, creating a holistic team that benefits clients. Taking a strengths-based approach, I value the unique and creative contributions of all, including those who identify as neurodivergent. I believe that every child is worthy of being seen, being heard and that everyone's story matters.

Interpersonal Therapists

Is interpersonal therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found interpersonal therapy to be effective for life transitions including retirement, divorce, and job loss. Also, some studies have found it to be just as useful as medication and other therapy approaches. The benefits of interpersonal therapy can last long after treatment has been completed; the individual can use the tenets of this therapy throughout their life.

How long does interpersonal therapy take?

Interpersonal psychotherapy is normally time-limited and focuses on specific problems in the client’s everyday relationships. Treatment can be either one-on-one or take place in a group setting; it tends to last 12 to 16 weeks, depending on the individual client’s needs. If a new interpersonal problem arises in the future, the client may require additional therapy to address it specifically. The timeline and session schedule may vary depending on the client’s challenges as well as their progress. Treatment may conclude with wrap-up sessions to review the client’s accomplishments.

Is interpersonal therapy effective?

Research shows that interpersonal therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of conditions such as depression or anxiety. The approach may also offer a range of benefits that are hard to measure but valuable—including healthier relationships and improved feelings of self-worth. The therapist will give the client practical solutions that can be put into practice. The brief duration of this therapy also means that clients can see changes in their relationships fairly quickly.

What are the limitations of interpersonal therapy?

Interpersonal therapy may not effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as psychosis, chronic illness, or alcohol relapse. Because it is short-term in nature, it may not be the best approach for conditions that need to be tracked, though maintenance sessions are a viable approach under these circumstances.

Can interpersonal psychotherapy be done online?

Yes, interpersonal psychotherapy can be conducted effectively either in-person or online. A therapist with expertise in IPT will be able to adjust their techniques, such as role-playing, to better suit the online environment. Offering online IPT can make it more accessible for clients who have transportation difficulties; it also provides the ideal opportunity to explore challenges unique to digital relationships.
