My specialties include perinatal mood disorders, anxiety, depression, codependency, interpersonal relationship conflict, family dysfunction, substance use disorders, and pregnancy/postpartum related stressors.
I strive to help my clients gain increased awareness, live mindfully, improve their relationships, and recognize the messages and patterns that are holding them back from experiencing a more fulfilling life. My hope is to create a safe, nonjudgmental environment to help my clients use person-centered and strengths-based techniques to reach their goals. I primarily see my clients via telehealth and have limited availability for in person sessions.

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening, or good night! I will give you 25 cool points if you tell me where I borrowed that phrase from. I'm Jerusalem Brown, a fully licensed psychotherapist (who also has a therapist), nationally certified counselor, and adjunct psychology instructor. My expertise centers on the lasting effects of early family dysfunction, emotional neglect, and childhood trauma. Even if you excel academically or professionally—embodying resilience and high functionality—you might still face challenges in cultivating healthy interpersonal dynamics.

Interpersonal skills will help you build healthy relationships, self-care will help you be the best version of yourself.
You ARE enough. The love and encouragement you did not receive from the people in your life was their failing, NOT yours. You ARE worthy. This is the time of your life where you are now in control.

Youth and adults who come to me often struggle with social-emotional and behavioral issues affecting academic progress, job functioning, peer/family relationships and self-image. These issues are often rooted in family conflict, identity confusion and trauma and can lead to more serious issues of anxiety and depression. As an interventionist, I will first help you resolve interpersonal conflicts and move outward to address family relational, social, academic, cultural and spiritual functioning.

My practice has evolved over the years to include adults and children dealing with a variety of interpersonal struggles. I try to tailor my approach to the needs of my clients, but find that helping people to identify the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that contribute to their issues (i.e., Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) is often the most helpful tool. Assessment is also a key component of my practice, whether it is simply a personality assessment to guide treatment or a comprehensive psychological or forensic evaluation to assist in educational planning, divorce, or other matters.

Counseling can be an unsettling idea, but what it should be is a collaborative process in which client and therapist set goals and make plans to achieve those goals. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor working with adolescents and adults to achieve a myriad of goals and resolve personal or interpersonal issues. I utilize a variety of therapeutic techniques so that whatever we are doing fits the needs of the client and helps them along their path to wholeness and mental health.

I utilize a variety of theories such as Psychodynamic, Interpersonal Pyschotherapy (IPT), and Narrative Therapy.
Life is hard! People think that they must pretend to be "okay" even when they're not okay. I aim to help clients recognize they are human and it's a healthy thing to experience emotions. I collaboratively work with my clients on learning how to process what life has dealt them and navigating the ups and downs in this journey called life. As I often tell my clients, ... "It's okay to not be okay!" I strive to help my clients achieve an optimal quality of life.

With 15 years experience in private practice and academia, I draw from cognitive behavioral therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, mindfulness, existential, and interpersonal, and polyvagal-informed therapies.
Life changes and trauma can lead to disconnection from ourselves and others. This disconnection can manifest as anxiety, depression, and loneliness. Through therapy, we can untangle the changes and trauma so we can truly hear ourselves. Our work might include emotional processing and regulation, self-compassion, self-acceptance, and mind-body awareness. At each step, I will check in with you and guide the pacing to fit your needs and goals. (See my website for more information.) Authorized to practice in all PsyPact states via telepsychology.

Dr. Kline's practice provides a compassionate, relaxed, and informal, environment where people in emotional pain can focus on getting better without fear of judgment. With experience and expertise spanning cognitive, behavioral, emotional, neurophysiological, and sociocultural levels of analysis, he provides an integrative, individualized, non-pharmacological approach to treating mental illness. If you are already taking medication, psychotherapy can help make it more effective. He believes that a diagnosis can help inform treatment, but does not define you. Diagnostic categories often don't entirely fit a given individual, so treatment needs to reflect individual goals and needs.

Interpersonal Therapists

Is interpersonal therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found interpersonal therapy to be effective for life transitions including retirement, divorce, and job loss. Also, some studies have found it to be just as useful as medication and other therapy approaches. The benefits of interpersonal therapy can last long after treatment has been completed; the individual can use the tenets of this therapy throughout their life.

How long does interpersonal therapy take?

Interpersonal psychotherapy is normally time-limited and focuses on specific problems in the client’s everyday relationships. Treatment can be either one-on-one or take place in a group setting; it tends to last 12 to 16 weeks, depending on the individual client’s needs. If a new interpersonal problem arises in the future, the client may require additional therapy to address it specifically. The timeline and session schedule may vary depending on the client’s challenges as well as their progress. Treatment may conclude with wrap-up sessions to review the client’s accomplishments.

Is interpersonal therapy effective?

Research shows that interpersonal therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of conditions such as depression or anxiety. The approach may also offer a range of benefits that are hard to measure but valuable—including healthier relationships and improved feelings of self-worth. The therapist will give the client practical solutions that can be put into practice. The brief duration of this therapy also means that clients can see changes in their relationships fairly quickly.

What are the limitations of interpersonal therapy?

Interpersonal therapy may not effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as psychosis, chronic illness, or alcohol relapse. Because it is short-term in nature, it may not be the best approach for conditions that need to be tracked, though maintenance sessions are a viable approach under these circumstances.

Can interpersonal psychotherapy be done online?

Yes, interpersonal psychotherapy can be conducted effectively either in-person or online. A therapist with expertise in IPT will be able to adjust their techniques, such as role-playing, to better suit the online environment. Offering online IPT can make it more accessible for clients who have transportation difficulties; it also provides the ideal opportunity to explore challenges unique to digital relationships.
