These influences are also congruent with the therapeutic approaches that I utilize in counseling adults, couples, and families such as Narrative Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and Gestalt Therapy, but not limited to.
I am an Asian family therapist, owner of Re-Story Child and Family Therapy. My clients regardless of ages have their own stories that shape how they view themselves, relate to the world and guide their daily decisions about life. These stories carrying family history, life crisis or transitions, illnesses, relationship or vocational stress, caring for loved ones with special needs and so on, often show up in conversations in my practice. My clients find it therapeutic discussing these narratives and where suitable, "Re-Story" them to allow new perspectives to emerge and to resolve matters initially described as stuck or unfinished.

Do you struggle with anxiety, depression, a challenging relationship, loss of a sense of self, parenting struggles, that affect your daily life, relationships, ability to function, work, career? Do you feel exhausted, overwhelmed, frustrated, just getting through the day, answering emails, texts or calls, the thought that there’s no light at the end of the tunnel? Do you question, wonder, hope that life could be better? Now more than ever, people are anxious, overwhelmed, uncertain about overcoming a difficult relationship, working through a loss, finding their place in life.

I really like helping clients out when they are having anxiety and or panic attacks. I have a unique approach, that I learned from having a panic attack myself, and applying my knowledge, and asking myself the question of, how do I not ever have a panic attack ever again. Their goal is to not have any more panic attacks, and I can show them how to arrest it and to not have any more ever.

I believe you hold the answers to the challenges that bring you to counseling. It is my job to support you finding them. I aim to work with acceptance, respect, and trust - allowing our work to be guided by you. In session, I listen both for what is said, as well as process – the often unspoken patterns and strategies of relating. I see mental health and well-being as a sense of wholeness. In this state, the many parts of ourselves are in agreement. I firmly believe that even the most disturbing or distressing experiences are potentials for growth and learning.

Hello, we are accepting new patients! Whether you're feeling down or anxious, struggling with hurtful and dysfunctional familial dynamics, having difficulty achieving a healthy work-life balance and/or enduring or wanting to heal from past or current traumas, you have found an ally. Developmental, relational and attachment trauma disconnects us from ourselves, our loved ones and even our spirituality. These types of traumas can leave us feeling isolated, unfulfilled and despondent. We all deserve to feel at peace - and that begins by learning how to heal.

I view therapy as an opportunity for growth and self-discovery. As humans, we have an innate drive toward wellness, and my task is to help facilitate that drive and help clear out the obstacles that are keeping you stuck. I walk alongside you, helping you to reach the outcomes you desire. My desire is to help you uncover the maladaptive coping patterns that have been developed over the years, and learn not to just to cope with your life circumstances, but to come to a place of thriving.

Emotionally Focused Therapists

Who is emotionally focused therapy for?

Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?

People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?

Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?

EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
