I believe that therapy is a collaborative effort – you know yourself better than anyone. We will work together to identify where you would most like support and which therapeutic strategies work best for you. I use evidence-based modalities such as cognitive behavioral theory and mindfulness, which can give you the tools you need to make the changes that you want in your life. I utilize a strengths-based and trauma-informed approach to therapy in hopes of creating a warm, welcoming space where each person feels comfortable being their authentic self.

Life is MESSY. It's serving chaos, stress, and curveballs left and right. And unfortunately… the messiness is probably more common than “everything going like it should.” Still, you don’t have to navigate the mess alone. If you feel lost, overwhelmed, or have no idea what to do next— let me be a partner on your path. We can work on cultivating and increasing your access to the strengths you already have inside, but may not always know how to tap into right now. I do this work because I feel passionate about supporting people as they navigate challenging life circumstances and create a life that is authentically meaningful.

I believe that most problems bringing people to psychotherapy arise from conflict issues and contact issues. Conflicts may involve inner conflicts, such as dilemmas of freedom vs. love, and interpersonal conlicts involving needs between partners, family members, past or present, coworkers, etc. Contact issues involve our connections with self, with others, and seeking, losing, healing, or needing to deepen the quality of these connections. Imbalances in contact or conflict may create mild to severe anxiety, depression, and when unresolved may fuel bad habits at best and at worst compulsive problems. Accurate definition of these underlying issues is necessary for resolution.

I help clients struggling with anxiety, depression, relationships, PTSD/trauma, motivation & life adjustments. It is not uncommon to find ourselves stuck or overwhelmed. We've often learned to neglect ourselves, our needs, and feel unable to call upon others when we need help. Many of us battle with feelings of shame and speak to ourselves in a critical voice. I believe this often comes from a place of wounding from our past that drives us further away from our true, authentic self. When we can learn how to care for ourselves in the way we needed in the past, we can shift our beliefs of ourselves and who we are in relation to others

Within each of us is an innate desire to be deeply known; to share our story; to be fully seen by another. It is in this achingly vulnerable space where we experience acceptance; belonging; intimate connection. When our lived experiences hold unaddressed narratives of neglect, abuse, abandonment, rigid intolerance or profound loss, the natural longing for connection can become distorted or overridden. What emerges from our understandable aversion to risk and rejection is the imperative to channel all our energy towards managing or keeping hidden the unacceptable parts of ourselves and our story. If this resonates, you are not alone.

Navigating life often involves unconsciously following paths laid out by others - the values, beliefs, and societal norms we absorb from our surroundings. These elements can profoundly influence our perception of success and happiness. However, the challenge arises when there's a mismatch between these external influences and our true desires, leading to various forms of emotional discomfort. You might experience this as anxiety over others' opinions, a sadness and disconnection from those closest to you, feelings of unfulfilled potential, or a persistent sensation that something vital remains just beyond grasp.

Thank you for your interest in my practice. Choosing the right therapist is undoubtably an important decision. In fact, research has demonstrated that which therapist you work with matters far more than the techniques or approach he or she employs. I work with adults of all ages and am especially drawn to helping people who are open-minded, motivated and eager to learn. I have a passion for helping people improve their relationships (both with themselves and others), and I also love working with people in therapy groups.

I believe in you. And I believe that everyone deserves to live a life full of meaning, purpose, hope, dignity and respect. We are all more than the worst things that have been done to us, and we are more than the worst things we have done. As a therapist, I create a space where it's safe to explore your story, and where you are encouraged to discover, grow, & give voice to your true self. Also, for those who are interested, I am able to incorporate my training as spiritual director to provide a non-judgmental space beyond ideology, that explores one's spiritual story, in order to provide full body, mind, and soul care.

You have often felt like dumbo was sitting on your chest, deep breaths were nearly impossible to take, and tension you barely realized you were holding in your body made you sore the next morning? Do you notice a stream of negative and judge mental thoughts in your head that just feel like familiar friends these days? Some days even feel like an imposter in your own skin…wishing things were different but feeling helpless? You are never helpless. You can confront these narratives and begin healing. You can finally release your shoulders, unclench your jaw, and find support. When you’re ready email me.

Welcome to the next step! The step that follows acknowledging that you cannot do this alone. Grief, trauma, and racial/ethnic identity issues are challenging to navigate. Whether this is your first time or not, I commend you for your willingness to be vulnerable and your readiness to work toward growth and change. No matter if you believe the issue is a "quick fix", so complex that you struggle to put it into words, or if you just feel that something is not sitting well within you and making you uneasy in your skin, I am here for you.

It's okay to be a unsure what you need out of therapy. It's ok to recognize that things aren't going well but can't exactly figure out why or how to change this. Questions and curiosity about the way we operate in our lives is wonderful starting place! It is okay if you've been to therapy before but still feel stuck. We are each full of endless potential.

In this life there is always something that makes us change. Human nature says that it is love or the loss of something or someone. If you think you need help to achieve your goals or make the necessary changes to be successful, you have to give yourself a chance. During therapy you have the necessary space to talk about the different barriers that are a challenge for you. I work with different people who are going through different personal situations, having challenges with their families, or struggling in their marriage.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Nashville?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
