Life is a journey and sometimes it helps to have some support along the way. A good therapy relationship can help engage you in an inner journey home: toward self-acceptance, compassion and forgiveness, toward living a more authentic life and toward fostering satisfying meaningful relationships. My work is informed by ongoing studies in Emotionally Focused Therapy, Transactional Analysis, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, and Hypnotherapy.

Sometimes we develop ways of thinking, acting, or feeling, that aren't useful to us anymore. Old patterns can leave us dissatisfied, depressed, unfulfilled, nervous, or disconnected from others. If you're struggling in some way, I can offer guidance to help you find your way back to yourself. The therapy I provide is grounded in compassion, non-judgment, and curiosity. Because we each have our own way of healing, my approach is integrative and tailored to your unique needs.

Life can push us beyond our capacity to manage well. Therapy is a vehicle that can help you find healing and balance. I work with the whole of you. I nurture your spirituality which I believe is the root source of healing. As you more fully embody your integrated self, anxiety and depression can subside. A feeling of well-being arises, you become more open and can engage more authentically in your relationships. I embrace non-dual philosophy affirming our interdependence with the unified field which, when attuned to, naturally generates a deep sense of connectedness. Our work together can bring you to a new paradigm of living.

Change happens when the unconscious emerges into consciousness. It is a moment when what was a blind spot is now crystal clear. There is the realization that it was there all along, but you just could not see it. I love helping clients to have this experience because I know they are now on the path of changing their lives and will not go back. I look for the clues, often obscure, microscopic and mysterious like the symbols in your dreams. I know now how to connect with the unconscious and ask for the information that will provide the openings. Then the adventure begins.

What makes my job extremely fulfilling is companioning with honest, curious individuals who hope to better themselves and want to experience all the best that life has to offer. "I'm responsible for who I am. My task is to free myself sufficiently so that I can respond in the present moment not from past programming. That's what freedom is." Initially a practitioner in nonprofits and community behavioral health programs and more recently private practice, i have come to find as a more recent trauma-informed therapist, symptoms such as anxiety, depression, and relational issues are often expressions of unresolved grief and trauma. I am fascinated by the power of lasting change that comes from intentional, deep work.

When choosing a therapist, experience matters. As a seasoned psychotherapist, scholar, and consultant with substantial training, I know there is no set formula for you and your situation. My holistic approach includes attention to your unique circumstance and goals including emotional, spiritual, and psychological health from a mind, body, spirit, perspective. There is no substitute for working with a professional who is fully attentive and present to what you are bringing to the experience, whom you can trust in helping you meet your goals and enhance your life quality.

Emotionally Focused Therapists

Who is emotionally focused therapy for?

Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?

People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?

Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?

EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
