My approach to couples work is informed by Emotionally Focused Therapy increasing empathic attunement and connection within relationships.
Being human is hard; that is an undeniable fact. Life is full of immense joy and gut wrenching heartache, high highs and low lows. I wholeheartedly believe that one of the most powerful benefits of being engaged in therapy is that you don’t have to face life alone. People are wired for connection and it is my mission for my clients to feel seen, heard, and deeply cared for in my presence. I work with adult individuals and couples to explore where they are in life, how they got there, and where they would like to go.

For couples, I am fully trained in Gottman Couples Therapy and Emotionally Focused Therapy.
I strongly believe that at our core the way we interpret what we experience creates narratives that guides our behaviors or how we react to things. It can mean the difference between being hopeful and hopeless.

I am trained in Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP) and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), two powerful forms of psychotherapy designed to promote connection, healing and growth.
Are you living the life you want? Is your relationship a source of pain for you? Are you arguing more, trusting less, or finding yourself not looking forward to spending time together? Maybe your relationship feels stuck, like you're just replaying the same disagreement over and over again. Do you not like the person you are when you're in a relationship or wonder why you keep repeating patterns in the type of person you date? Human beings are wired for connection, yet somehow the people we are closest with also seem to cause us the most pain.

I specialize in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT-C), an empirically validated, structured and active therapy model that focuses on forging more secure, satisfying and resilient relationship bonds.
I'm passionate about helping clients recognize and break unhealthy patterns in their lives, particularly involving close relationships. I work with individuals and couples on cultivating more understanding and compassion for self and others, and on more caring and effective navigation of relationship conflicts. I support clients in advocating for their own needs, desires and boundaries in relationships, and on better understanding the perspectives and needs of others. I welcomed a child at the height of Covid-19 (2020), and I enjoy working with new parents on maintaining self-care and personal fulfillment while parenting young kids.

My expertise is in getting underneath familiar loops of anxiety and depression using powerful somatic modalities (AEDP, EMDR, EFT) that go further than just talk therapy.
So many of us turn to therapy because we're exhausted, overwhelmed, or stuck. We're confused by our own reactions, beliefs, and thoughts. Often it can feel like we're fighting against ourselves and unintentionally hurting us and others in the process. Even if we have a vague understanding of our negative patterns, unbinding them can seem daunting. We're surrounded by people, information, and options, yet we feel more insecure, lost, and lonely than ever. Even the act of finding a therapist is distressing. But if you're here trying, I believe it speaks to the resilience emerging inside of you, driving you toward relief and change.

I am a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in depression, anxiety, trauma, and relationship issues. I have particular clinical interest in gender and sexual diversity, dysfunctional relationship patterns, challenges related to life transitions, and bi/multicultural identity issues. I work from a contemporary psychodynamic perspective and incorporate cognitive-behavioral and solution-focused techniques when helpful. I believe that the primary goal of therapy is to develop a deeper understanding of yourself, including greater awareness of automatic or problematic patterns of behaving and relating to others.

Prioritizing mental and emotional health may sometimes feel hard to do when there is so much going on. However, the feeling of growth, strength, hope and triumph are worth it when taking the step to improving one’s mental well-being. Navigating past or present stressors doesn’t have to be done alone. I have 8 years of social work practice and acquired experience in working with with children, adolescents and adults in addressing their anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, family conflict, crisis intervention and emotional instability.

Psychotherapy is about helping a person relieve stress, expand choices, see new behavioral strategies, and restore the client's ability to cope with problems on their own. The psychotherapist helps to correct the mistakes of upbringing, improve the quality of life, make a career, develop character, resolve difficult situations, etc. You can find a way out of any situation, and with a psychologist this path is much easier to go through. You will be able to find support and stability in your life situation.

I have the privilege of accompanying clients as they go through some of the most painful and some of the most joyous times of their lives. I see therapy as a journey that the client and therapist take together with the therapist playing the role of a traveling companion, guide, and interpreter. I have extensive experience providing counseling services to adolescents, adults, and families in various clinical settings. The focus of treatment includes improving self-image, changing negative self-talk, and working through trauma. My approach is collaborative, working together to define and achieve therapy goals.

Emotionally Focused Therapists

Who is emotionally focused therapy for?

Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?

People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?

Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?

EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
