Do you struggle to feel connected to your loved one? Have you ever wanted your romantic partner to be there for you and felt discouraged because it seemed impossible, or like they couldn't show up for you in the way you truly needed? This sense of disconnect can lead to feelings of helplessness and frustration that seem to never end. A negative voice might speak up and tell you it's time to give up and walk away from your relationship altogether, which sounds more and more tempting as time goes on. But there is always hope! You are here on my profile for a reason, and your relationship can improve!
I want to encourage you that we are all made for relationships, created in the image of a Relational God. We desperately need close, secure relationships as part of who we are, and our desire to grow close is part of survival. However, when this closeness is threatened, we can respond in ways that actually distance us, creating a negative cycle that hurts.
My approach as a Marriage and Family Therapist Trainee will include biblical truth and empirical research about relationship dynamics and attachment styles. We will work to uncover the primary emotions that fuel your negative cycle and learn how to transform the panic and distress that come from your relationship needs into a stronger emotional bond.
