I work with people who are tired of talking about it. They've done the work. They know their patterns, they can trace them back, and something is still stuck. That's usually when people find me. I'm Emily, a therapist, yoga teacher, and owner of Big Oak Wellness in Roanoke, Virginia. Most of what keeps us stuck isn't in our heads, it's in the body. Nervous system responses we developed long before we had the words for what was happening to us. Understanding it doesn't undo it. We have to actually feel it to move it.
I use EMDR, Brainspotting, IFS, and the Comprehensive Resource Model — approaches that work at a level deeper than insight. I specialize in trauma, attachment, infertility, adoption, perinatal mental health, and generational trauma. I also work with couples, including Discernment Counseling for partners figuring out whether to stay together or separate.
I'm a Registered Yoga Teacher certified in Applied Polyvagal Theory in Therapeutic Yoga for Trauma Recovery — which means I know how to bring the nervous system and the body into the healing process, not just the mind.
