I have completed extensive training in the treatment of trauma and attachment injuries, including training in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and EMDR, allowing me to bring an integrative, mind-body approach to my work that my clients find profoundly helpful.
I offer individual therapy for adults and adolescents, and specialize in working with women and teens dealing with the impact of sexual assault, childhood abuse, or other trauma. Other areas of clinical interest include relationship issues, life transitions, anxiety, and identity questions. I believe therapy is a collaborative process that allows us to be deeply seen and heard, and to see ourselves in new and transformative ways. It can build self-esteem and strengthen our sense of who we are and how we fit into the world. As we understand ourselves more fully, relationships with others become richer and more fulfilling. Therapy can strengthen our ability to adapt and adjust to the changing circumstances of our lives, freeing us up to respond more flexibly to the world around us and to experience a more enlivened way of being. For trauma survivors who experience overwhelming waves of shame and fear, a lurking sense of unease, or confusing physical sensations, therapy can help calm the mind and the nervous system, allowing you to move from reliving the past to feeling grounded, present, and whole in mind and body.

I am trained in a variety of treatment methods: EMDR (Eye Movement, Desensitization and Reprocessing), IFS (Internal Family Systems), AEDP (Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy), PE for PTSD (Prolonged Exposure) and Somatic Body Work.
The attempt to ignore or suppress emotions, the pressure to "get over it", is where feelings of anxiety, depression, anger and loneliness thrive. I believe in the intelligence of our internal emotional system, viewing symptoms not as a problem to be solved but a roadmap to follow towards feeling and functioning better. The process of therapy will connect you with the internal resources needed to navigate life from a calmer and more connected space.

In addition to Brief EMDR, I offer Intensive EMDR for more in-depth processing and healing.
As a trauma-informed therapist, I am passionate about helping my clients shed their burdens and feel more empowered in their lives. I believe each of us has innate healing powers that can become overcome by trauma, leaving us feeling stuck, frozen, or in states of panic. EMDR is a research-based approach that can be combined with other methods to allow old "unprocessed" memories to become processed, thereby relieving you of unwanted negative thoughts and feelings. I have been honored to witness my clients experience profound transformations using this approach and was inspired to pursue advanced training and Certification in EMDR.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
