I have expertise in trauma work, certified in EMDR (Eye Movement, Desensitization and Reprocessing).
There are those times in our lives when our discomfort with ourselves or others, just becomes too uncomfortable and you need to take an action that would solve the problem once and for all. Psychotherapy is that action. Confiding in someone who is respectful and competent, in that they can clarify your issues, right from the first session, can make your stress, no matter how high the stress, seem solvable. I am that therapist. Once clarity is reached, understanding and solving problems follow. Individual, couple or full family issues are addressed.

I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and I am trained as an Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapist.
As a Licensed Professional Counselor, it's my goal to help you feel respected and create a safe environment for you to share whatever you need to during therapy. It is my intention to empower you, strengthen your individuality, help to strengthen your belief that you have great worth, and that you can overcome traumatic events and memories. We are more than the thoughts we have that we're ashamed of, we're more than the worst moments of our lives, much more than our mistakes, and in my practice, I respect the courage it takes to be vulnerable, honest, and open to new ways of thinking.

I am a relational therapist with training in various modalities of trauma therapy including EMDR, CPT, and TF-CBT.
My favorite part about being a therapist is working collaboratively with you to build a unique therapeutic relationship that feels comfortable and authentic. I often work with individuals who want to have more fulfilling relationships and feel more connected to themselves and others. I will always celebrate your joy, humor, creativity, and whichever parts of yourself that you want to share. I aim to practice with a non-pathologizing lens that honors your story, experiences, and unique position in the world.

I employ various trauma treatment approaches (EMDR, Attachment-based, IFS, Trauma Informed Yoga), tailored to your needs.
I help individuals facing challenges in managing painful emotions, trauma, depression, anxiety, and the complexities of pregnancy, postpartum, and motherhood. Navigating emotional highs and lows can be distressing, especially if influenced by trauma. Managing emotions like anxiety, sadness, shame, and anger may impact relationships, fostering feelings of inadequacy and isolation.

I use structured as well as collaborative approaches to improve coping skills and also utilize principles and techniques from mind-body practices, such as EMDR, Focusing, Neuro-Emotional Technique (NET) and Mindfulness to unblock hidden fears and conflicts which may be contributing to deficiencies in functioning.
Life can be difficult at times, sometimes overwhelming. We may not trust ourselves to walk the path that is best for us, second-guessing and blocking our innate knowing of what is right and wrong. I work with adults, children and couples, providing a safe environment of warmth and unconditional positive regard, so that each person can have the space to discover who he or she is and what steps are needed to better manage conflicts. I work with those suffering from low self-esteem, trauma, relational and transition issues, chronic pain and addiction.

As a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional I use various brain-based Developmental/Relational approaches including Parts work, Mindfulness, Somatics and (possibly, when warranted) EMDR to explore issues related to stress and trauma, loss and grief, sexual/gender identity (sex-positivity perspective), relationships/attachment concerns.
Hello! Often, life can seem tough, leaving us stuck in worries related to the past or anxious about the future. A huge part of healing is first understanding everything has a beginning, a middle, and an end, and that it may help to have an objective collaborator to assist in processing the situation, who can listen and not judge while exploring questions related to your concerns. (If curious to know more, contact me directly first, then we'll arrange with the Counseling & Wellness Center to register for services.)

I am a licensed clinical social worker and I have a certificate in working with military veterans and their families, EMDR, acceptance and commitment therapy, prolonged exposure therapy, and sex therapy.
At some point, you may find yourself in need of a little extra support. Maybe someone non-judgmental to listen to you and to hear what you have to say. Perhaps you need a safe space to process something with a therapist who can help you find your own answers. If you are feeling out of control or if you are struggling with life’s challenges, seeking help is an excellent way to start the process of healing. Together, however, we can work collaboratively to identify and reach your goals to create essential changes in your life.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
