Reaching out to a therapist can be a daunting task. It is difficult to make changes and break unhealthy patterns and anxiety and depression can feel crippling. Therapy can play a large role in helping individuals lead happier, more productive lives. We all face challenges but with the proper support, your challenges do not need to define you or stop you from achieving happiness and success. I believe in treating each patient as an individual. While my orientation is primarily psychodynamic I also use Emotionally Focused Tapping (EFT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).

My approach is eclectic;cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), hypnosis, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) and somatic experiencing (SE) are among the therapies I practice.
Are you feeling a diminished sense of self-confidence? Are you feeling that the way you view yourself is keeping you from experiencing life fully and/or causing you suffering? Are you experiencing nightmares, flashbacks, anxiety, depression, fears, anger, impaired concentration, difficulties at work, school or home? If you answered "yes" to any question, you may be reacting to trauma.

My work in schools and EMDR training guide my therapy practice.
Are you struggling to balance work and your personal goals? Do you repeat patterns in your relationships that don't work but can't figure out why? I believe that therapy should be collaborative and focused on improving the quality of your life. It should be a place where you can honestly share your stress and find the resources within yourself to cope. Sometimes, we are able to quickly move past negative events in our lives and, other times, we need more skills. I have advanced clinical training in EMDR therapy to help people get past those stuck points and make deep internal changes.

We all have a natural resiliency, but sometimes need external supports to feel empowered. Combining use of verbal psychotherapy, EMDR, creative arts therapy, and mindfulness, I provide this support in a way that best fits each individual's needs. I work with all ages, with a specific focus on adolescents and adults. Through the context of a trusting therapeutic relationship, my clients explore issues, both past, present, and future. This brings about a deeper level of self-awareness that leads to personal growth, healing, and the alleviation of stress.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
