Along with compassionate support in our relationship, EMDR and CBT help to desensitize and reprogram past experiences to enable living a happy life.
I have discovered in my 30+ years as a therapist that when we get stuck in a certain way of feeling, thinking, or behaving which interferes with our happiness, it is usually rooted in a past historyor perhaps a singular past experience, which traps us in a "programmed" way of being. I work with people to liberate them from these patterns which are often ways that the brain processes these experiences and when they can be reprocessed a person can have a much more functional and happy life. Anxiety, depression and relationship dysfunction can often be healed using these principals.

The ones that I've found to be the most beneficial include the following: Dialectical/Cognitive Behavior Therapy and EMDR, which is a powerful technique for helping people recover from hurtful experiences.
Are you ready to feel better? Are you ready for a life free of debilitating symptoms but are not quiet sure as to what to do about it? I have extensive training and experience with helping people let go of emotional pain and move towards and gain a satisfying life free of debilitating symptoms. My treatment style is eclectic, which means that I incorporate the best of different styles. I believe that therapy involves a secure, safe, non-judgmental environment that serves as a foundation, from which we add on techniques that can be most beneficial for you to achieve the goals that you wish to reach.

In addition to traditional therapeutic approaches, I am also trained in EMDR and hypnosis and utilize these approaches to optimize healing.
When life is difficult there are people trained to support and uplift. Through therapy we develop an awareness of who we are, where we have been, and where we are going. Knowledge and emotional sensitivity is empowering, ultimately increasing an internally driven sense of direction and comfort.

In my 20 years practicing in the healing profession, I have gained tremendous experience working with people who have felt limited by, or did not respond well to, traditional talk therapy. When we are dealing with emotional triggers, we often get so dysregulated that we can't think clearly or behave how we truly want. I specialize in breaking out of rinse and repeat patterns without having to rehash your life story or relive painful memories. One of the main reasons people avoid therapy is they can feel worse after digging things up, so I intend that each client is grounded and confident that they have tools when leaving a session.

Whether dealing with the effects of trauma, a loss, struggling with anxiety or depression, or coping with a life transition, it can help to explore concerns in a safe and supportive environment. I believe that a therapist’s role is to be a listening ear, provide feedback, offer support, and provide resources as clients explore their concerns, identify solutions, and develop plans of action that best fit their chosen life journeys.

I specialize in treating PTSD and using a technique called EMDR.
Did you experience a recent traumatic event, like a frightening car accident or sudden death of a loved one. Were you raised in a chaotic or abusive home. Unresolved trauma can lead to flashbacks, a sense of being disconnected from others, mood swing. Some survivors of trauma feel like they are always waiting for the other shoe to drop or like they always have to have their guard up around others. If you have felt trapped by your past trauma or even beyond repair because of the traumatic life experiences you have endured then I can help. I am passionate about helping people resolve trauma so they can live a life full of meaning.

I am a certified EMDR practitioner and also a certified Hypnotherapist, drawing from these different modalities as needed.
I am very passionate about the work I do and believe that when placing yourself in a vulnerable position you want to know that you will experience feelings of felt safety. Together, we explore parts of the self that have successfully protected you, while also blocking you from reaching your full potential. Sometimes those very parts that limit us, decide to show up in the most inconvenient and untimely manner, reflecting back what you aren't necessarily ready to see. I work with you to help make sense of your internal blocks and struggles with intention.

I have expertise in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing), hypnotherapy and sensorimotor processing -- approaches which facilitate the integration of trauma.
Do you feel stuck and unable to move forward? Is it hard to let go of experiences from your past? Often unresolved issues from the past can interfere with fully enjoying the present moment. If you've experienced trauma, the frightening/overwhelming experience can resurface months or years later, seemingly "out of the blue" and cause symptoms which make it nearly impossible to feel in control of life. Working together in psychotherapy, you will learn strategies to calm your anxiety, reduce stress and be back in the driver's seat of life.

Using a mix of treatments including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, EMDR and other meditation / mindfulness-based treatments, we’ll explore how to reach your goals.
It takes strength to seek help. My goal is to build a safe, non-judgmental environment, where we can explore and find insight together. In therapy, I enjoy working with clients to explore their inner worlds to build self resiliency. In particular, I have an interest in perinatal mood disorders such as postpartum depression and have conducted research in this area. Mostly, I work with adults and young adults who are experiencing anxiety, depression and/or dealing with trauma.

I utilize evidence-based practices such as Trauma-Focused Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR).
You don’t need a diagnosed condition to benefit from talking to someone. Therapy is not one-size-fits-all, so I utilize a person-centered approach. You are the focus. Your experience, goals, desired results, and expectations from therapy will be the first topic. I provide a welcoming, comfortable, and safe space that utilizes a range of integrative treatments that allow you to challenge, reflect, and accept yourself. I believe in the role of attachment-based & somatic-based interventions which allow for the healing of the nervous system. I specialize in treating trauma/adverse life experiences, anxiety, and depressive disorders.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
