I see you scrolling, checking out all these profiles. Bit overwhelming huh? How do you choose? Who is right? Will they judge you? The cool thing is that it's so trendy to have a therapist; weren't you aware? That's why it's so hard to find one these days! But, it is still kind of scary to take the plunge. That's not how it's supposed to be you know; when you enter my office, my one and only goal is to help you feel accepted just how you are, no matter what you're bringing through the door. Kids making you crazy? Partner on your last nerve? Memories or old trauma preventing your from feeling like you can move forward? I can help.

If I were looking for a therapist; I'd be hunting for the person that would listen & reflect on what they heard; offer advice that aligned with the problems presented, and challenge me to expand my perspective. I would want them to respect my beliefs and values; and provide authentic, life-giving examples to apply to my situation - using layman's terms and not their medical terminology vocabulary; but through their heart. Lastly, they would have to be funny and make me laugh through my pain. If that's you, reach out to me and we'll chat to determine if we align and could work well together!

I am not accepting new clients at this time, I am supervising a clinical intern with openings. There is a way through. You don’t have to keep running from the present, sitting in the past or fixating on the future. You can be here now. Our work together can help orient the change process so that it is aligned with your values. I have been working with women, couples and families for the past decade. I bring authenticity, integrity and passion to the therapeutic relationship. It is possible to move from trauma, attachment wounds, addiction, disordered eating and anxiety towards resiliency, compassion, connection, hope and healing.

I use CBT, mindfulness, EMDR, & psychoeducation to aid the development of healthy coping skills, including effective communication and self-care.
We are all seeking relief from something. Or have certain roadblocks we continually coming up against that seemingly won’t budge. Needing extra support is nothing to be ashamed of-reaching out for it is a sign of strength and courage. I believe every individual possesses innate strengths and I work with clients to identify and build upon these as the foundation for healthy change and personal growth. Often what we view as our weaknesses can also become strengths, they just need to be in balance. Through self-examination and hard work we have the capacity to grow and surpass our current problems and limitations.

Trained in attachment-focused, trauma-informed therapist, including EMDR, poly-vagal theory, intersectional and systems focused therapies, I work together with clients to build resilience, to witness their own strength, and to feel empowered.
It’s important to feel comfortable coming to therapy just as you are. Many of us experience major life changes, challenging relationships, grief, guilt, anxiety, or trauma reactions, that cause us to feel self-doubt, to feel disconnected from our needs and bodies, and to even minimize our own experiences. My approach, which is intersectional, developmentally focused, and trauma-informed, helps you tap into the knowledge your body and emotions have for you, while developing skills so these feelings don’t overwhelm and take center stage. I have current openings for EMDR, new parents with perinatal mood disorders, and LGBTQ folks.

Therapy is an interactive process where we explore solutions and experience ourselves in new ways. Sometimes we feel stuck, overwhelmed, anxious, and depressed. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), a proven approach to treating trauma and anxiety disorders. I believe memories shape the way we feel about ourselves, others, and the world, and EMDR can help neutralize the negative energy we hold in the body. I’ve uncovered so much about the healing process and how to let go of burdens both big and small, which allows us to move through the world more freely.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
