I specialize in EMDR therapy for Adult Children of Alcoholics/Dysfunctional Families to clear emotional blocks so that they can achieve their career and life goals without the insecurity and self-doubt.
Are you tired of running? I see you...telling yourself you just need some "skills" or "strategies" to manage things that have gotten really out of control - your overbooked schedule, your blood pressure and the thought swirl that doesn't want to let you sleep at night. You know something has to change, but you can't slow down long enough to breathe. You're used to solving problems on your own, but this feels too big. You've been to therapy before, and it sort of helped take the edge off for a while. It’s time for a fresh approach that addresses problems from the root. You can stop running from your feelings and start resolving them.

My approach to therapy is grounded in Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy and other trauma-informed interventions like Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
I believe strongly in the resilience of people, and that a healthy therapeutic relationship can promote trust, healing, and personal growth. I believe that successful therapy is predicated on having a strong therapeutic alliance; the connection and collaborative relationship between the client and therapist. Taking a strength-based perspective, I listen deeply and reflectively to sustain a non-judgmental and safe environment. I am passionate about helping clients fully process past experiences and thrive in relationships with themselves, others, and the world around them.

I compare my role as therapist to be a guide, someone who listens carefully and guides you through your unique maze, pointing out potential pitfalls and celebrating scenic views. I offer a calm space to allow you to open up, process your experiences, and take steps forward. For years I’ve worked with people who wrestled with grief over various losses such as death, divorce, chronic illness, unemployment and estranged relationships.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
