EMDR with focus on understanding of attachment wounds and embodied effects of trauma.
Limited availability for virtual individual sessions. Do you feel disconnected from your authentic self, unable to form deep, meaningful connections, unsure of where you belong in the world, overly vulnerable and sensitive, constantly needing to protect yourself while feeling that whatever goes wrong in life is your fault? All these symptoms could indicate unhealed trauma.

Possibly it is associated with a relationship challenge, loss of a job, or difficulty with a family concern? All of these challenges can block you from feeling your best or able to function. Let's uncover the root of the problem through interventions and develop a plan to get you feeling your best.

Some of the modalities I use are EMDR, CBT, Motivational interviewing, solution-focused techniques as well as a combination of these.
I think one of the most important parts of therapy is finding the right "fit". That relationship is key in helping grow, trust and meet any goals that you might have going into the therapeutic process. Let me give you a glimpse of who I am! I'm Amy, a LMHC, who has been in the counseling world for over 15 years and love what I get to do. I started my career in the community health sector which I learned so much and worked with diverse groups of people with an array of various needs.

I have experience with working with relational trauma and have been trained in EMDR, Gottman Couples's Therapy, and Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples.
Do you find yourself getting caught up in the past? Does it seem like you can't move forward from things that have happened or decisions you have made? Is this reoccurring theme telling you that you are not good enough or not important? Do you find yourself asking questions in your marriage like, does this person really have my back, or will this person be there for me no matter what? These are a few of the common themes that I hear over and over in my office. There is hope!

Although my style focuses on Cognitive Behavioral therapy, I also incorporate other modalities such as EMDR, Play Therapy and Art as Therapy.
I believe that the relationship between therapist and client is an essential part of the healing process. To foster the therapeutic relationship I incorporate trust, respect, and authenticity into my work. I provide an open, comfortable, and non-judgmental environment where my clients can feel at ease. My goal for my clients is two-fold. In the short term, I'd like to help clients get some relief and to ease some of the symptoms they may be experiencing. In the longer term, I hope to get to the bottom of the feelings, concerns and dilemmas that cause such symptoms.

I have successfully used EMDR to help clients deal with depression, anxiety, unresolved grief, past traumas, and conditions blocking them from being the full-functioning person they want to be.
Do you wish you had someone neutral to talk to; someone outside your circle of friends or family; someone with whom you can express your true self without the fear of being judged? Our relationship will be one of respect, empathy, and understanding. My goal and focus in therapy is to help you find your own way and answers to your unique situations and problems. You do have the answers within yourself and I would be honored to help you find them and then implement the necessary changes to see new dreams materialize.

I now do EMDR to help people deal with their traumas.
I have been working in this field for over twenty two years, and I truly enjoy helping people to improve their lives. I assess the needs of the individual, couple, and/or family, and work with them in a creative way to guide and support a person's committment for change. Everyone has different challenges in their life, and at times it is difficult to manage those transitions individually. I encourage clients to improve communication, rebuild healthy relationships, and increase a person's coping skills after they experienced a life changing event or transition.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
