I use a variety of therapeutic techniques including motivational interviewing, narrative therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and EMDR in working with my clients.
So many of us have cracks in our foundations due to difficult life experiences, painful childhoods, traumas, addictions, relationship issues, and health conditions. Life challenges can seem so overwhelming that growing into the person that we would like to seems impossible. I am here to help you reprocess past pains, shift negative perspectives and let go of harmful behaviors. We are all capable of so much more than we know, yet we stand in the way of ourselves. I have experience working with a wide variety of clients, which has helped me to grow as a helping professional.

As an EMDR trained therapist I will help you resolve past experiences by giving you the power to change how those experiences influence you, all in less time than traditional talk therapy.
You deserve to live the highest quality of life you can. Often times we try to heal from both emotional and mental pain by seeking out external factors that are rarely in our control only to see minimally lasting results. My work with you would focus on learning to look inwardly for growth and healing. Understanding how your body and mind respond to emotional experiences can help you be in control regardless of the external factors. You have everything you need to heal; you are not "broken" nor do you need "fixing" sometimes we simply get lost along the way.

Hello, my name is Angele Suarez, and I am a licensed clinical social worker with over 22 years of experience. I believe if I can help one person become the best version of themselves, then this will directly impact the other relationships in their lives. Through empowerment and support, the adults I work with will be able to model healthy communication and respect towards others (i.e., their children, family members, friends, colleagues, etc.), thus creating a domino effect. I enjoy working with adults and couples who are struggling with relationship issues, past childhood trauma, and parenting challenges.

It can be painful to struggle with issues and wish that they might somehow disappear. I understand how these issues can sometimes make you feel your life is stuck and that they can prevent you from living or enjoying your life more fully. I also know how difficult it can be to seek help or talk about these issues. This is why it is my approach to get to know each client and find an individualized and unique path to addressing the issues that are preventing them from creating a greater sense of well-being and happiness.

As a mom, spouse, friend, and professional woman you are wearing many hats, and this can become difficult. At times you feel overwhelmed by life and after a long day of showing up for everyone else, there is nothing left for you. Everything appears okay from the outside looking in, but you can feel yourself cracking more and more each day. You may have fooled everyone around you, but you know the truth. You feel broken and wounded by past mistakes and trauma. You find yourself isolating from friends and family and turning down invites. That feeling of loneliness and sadness has just become too difficult to stuff down anymore.

Hello, I'm Leah, a licensed clinical social worker. I work with people to learn new coping skills so they can make the changes they want to see in their lives. A lot of it is working with emotions so they can communicate what's important but without the emotions taking control of behavior. I work with adults who want to learn to do things differently: get control of their emotions, figure out new ways to be in relationships with others, and stop letting "irrational" fears determine what they can and can't do.

Dear friend, I believe that with the right tools, you have the ability and resilience to prosper in life. Together, we can focus on you as a whole person; your strengths, aspirations and daily struggles, and as we work through these you can open doors to new possibilities and solutions. Most importantly, you and I can approach each meeting with mutual respect of culture, knowledge and experience. Based on your beliefs and what you value as an individual and as part of a family and a society, we can mold our interactions towards the therapeutic modalities that best suit you.

Do you sometimes feel that life is overwhelming? Try as you might you are unable to get on top of things? Are you asking yourself, “why now, I’ve been able to handle things before”? Maybe you know something is amiss, but are at a loss as to how to handle it. Do you find yourself worrying about everything at once or all the time? Does it keep you up at night? Do you find it hard to focus or make decisions? Is it hard to enjoy things that you used to enjoy?

Just like pulling a weed from the root prevents it from growing back, I believe that therapy is most effective when we get to the root of problems and address the core issues contributing to your symptoms. I am here to build your insight into issues, help you process how and where they started, and give you the tools to prevent your symptoms from coming back once they're gone.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
