I am also EMDR trained, which allows me to incorporate trauma work into our sessions together.
Everyone has an inner critic that is demanding, judgmental, and critical of the self. Some have harsher inner critics than others; however, my goal is for my clients to experience less criticism and more curiosity and self-compassion. Self-criticism is debilitating. It can lead to depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, eating disorders, cutting, substance abuse, infidelity and the list goes on. As I work with my clients to develop more self-awareness and self-understanding, they begin to develop more self-compassion and their symptoms begin to dissipate.

I am trained in EMDR which allows me to help clients re-experience safety and process traumatic events.
Do feelings always feel intense and raw? Do these feelings take over and get in the way of your relationship or closeness with others? These are patterns that scream a need to survive and to protect. I am here to help you appreciate the way your body has tried to keep you safe for years while also learning how and why it shows up, whether it be in or out of the bedroom. We need to feel heard and seen in our pain and that is what I value providing in our sessions. Together, we will identify your needs and goals in order to feel balanced and connected to others.

Have you experienced a distressing event that has impacted your life? Depression, anxiety, PTSD, flashbacks, sleep disturbances? I have been focusing on trauma work for over 5 years specifically, and utilize EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) a trauma modality.
Finding a therapist can be challenging and scary so I applaud you for taking the first step. I believe it is an honor and privilege to be a part of someone's journey and healing and want you to feel safe and comfortable so you can be yourself and explore your past, present and future self. I work from a mixture of therapeutic modalities including Gestalt and psychodynamic. However, everyone is very unique and I always meet clients where they are.

In our sessions, I bring a unique blend of empathy, specialized therapies like EMDR, ART, solution-focused and cognitive-behavioral techniques, and a depth of experience in trauma, eating disorders, addiction, and the intricate challenges life can throw our way.
You're here, and it's not easy. Life's complexities have thrown you into a whirlwind of challenges – maybe it's the echoes of past trauma, the persistent tug of anxiety or depression, or perhaps it's the weight of expectations that feel impossible to carry. Originally from Austria, a former professional triathlete, and now doctoral student in MFT, I know firsthand the pressures of performance and the mental strains that come with it, I understand the delicate balance between physical prowess and mental resilience. If you are someone yearning for clarity and healing, I'm here to be your compass on this journey.

What happens when you are traumatized and how can EMDR help? Most of the time your body routinely manages new information and experiences without you being aware of it.
Have you lived through a traumatic experience that you are unable to move past? Are adverse childhood experiences still affecting your present day perceptions? Have you been questioning whether or not you will ever be able to move past the past? These are some of the very issues that I can help you identify and process during our work together. I have spent over 3000 hours helping children, adolescents, and adults move past their childhood and adult traumas. My goal is to help each unique individual move past their past so they may focus on the present and begin to live the very best life.

Using EMDR, Multicultural Feminist Theory, along with others, I aim to help clients expose the internalized messages that effect their perspectives of themselves and then free them from those expectations that are contributing to their problems.
Do you feel like you keep getting into the same kind of relationship? Do you have emotional reactions that are bigger than the situation? Our past experiences shape the negative messages we have about ourselves and the world. We can work to reveal and rewrite those messages so that you can move forward toward the life you want.

I specialize in trauma-focused therapy and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR).
Hello! My name is Crystal and I'm a Korean-American licensed therapist (LCSW 118672). Many of my clients sense that their trauma can feel like an invisible wound, where they have been invalidated by others time and time again. This may have led them to dismiss their own feelings, avoid connection/intimacy with others, people-please, or heavily distract themselves to the point where they don't recognize themselves anymore. If you resonate with this, I would be honored to provide you tools to help you reclaim your life and understand that trauma no longer has to have power over you.

My approach includes EMDR (as appropriate), mindfulness training, cognitive/behavioral skills training, relaxation exercises and attachment theory.
Have your personal/familial relationships become a struggle? Are you noticing negative patterns in your life? Have you had traumatic experiences in your life? Many challenging areas in life stem from how an individual relates to others as well as, of course, life stress. I have worked with many adolescents, parents and individuals in tackling troubling issues that have resulted in marital discord, negative thoughts, behavioral problems and relationships that are less than satisfying. I take a team approach with my clients to assist them in gaining confidence, insight, and developing tools that can be utilized in the future.

Through trauma-informed approaches, like EMDR and TF-CBT, I hope to help you integrate the past and present for a healthy future.
I believe that in order for therapy to be effective, there has to be intentional effort made to learn about you and learn from you - this is your life and your investment! Alongside hearing about your past difficult experiences and current challenges, I also hope to be a cheerleader in the goals you achieve and highlight the strengths you possess. I value creating a therapeutic space where you have the ability to speak unfiltered without fear of judgment, and I acknowledge that this atmosphere will take time to build - you set the pace!

I utilize different modalities, EMDR therapy, tailored on the clients needs.
I'M NOT good enough, I'M NOT lovable, & I'M not WORTHY! Sound familiar? Does it look "PERFECT" on the outside but you struggle internally? Does something feel off even though it seems life is all together? We live in a fast-paced world. The expectation is for us to have everything together: the perfect relationship, job, home, friends, body, high self-esteem, and social media life. - - - - - - - - - - - - The reality is, we have real emotions, feelings, and life challenges. Even the strongest of us need some support in forcing our inner self-sabtoging critic to sashay away. Together, let's create the life you've always wanted.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
