As an EMDR Certified Therapist and Consultant, I offer evidence based EMDR and somatic techniques through intensives that can help to calm your brain and body and help you to heal.
You can’t take it anymore. You feel yourself both falling apart inside, freaking out, and then shutting down. You try to live your daily life, but the issues of everyday life trigger memories, leaving you feeling emotionally flooded and agitated. You don’t want to continue the pain of the past into your future, but you find yourself having reactions out of proportion to what is happening. It feels unbearable. You want to be sure the people you love are protected and nurtured unlike how you felt growing up. You worry all the time and you feel paralyzed, as though nothing you do or try matters or makes a difference.

Everything about our lives is centered in relationship; knowing how to effectively initiate and maintain supportive, enjoyable and mutually satisfying relationships will serve us throughout our lives. But this doesn't happen without many ups and downs, some of which benefit from including a supportive, objective and helpful therapist. If you are wishing to improve your thinking, your skill in dealing with stress, anxiety, depression or trauma, living in past experiences or fearing the future, I would be honored to help.

Everyone has within them the capacity to heal. Sometimes, though, it’s helpful to have someone come alongside of you on your journey. As an infant-family early childhood mental health specialist, I work with children and families across physical, emotional, spiritual, and mental domains, employing a strong attachment-based approach while also using cognitive-behavioral, narrative, family systems, and solution-oriented frameworks. I also love to work within a Christian framework if so desired by the client and/or family.

As a queer transgender, nonbinary individual with a non-traditional spiritual practice and collaborative approach to my therapy, I know that finding the right therapist is important. Whether in rural situations or in a big city—the therapy room is a space where a client doesn't have to explain or educate a therapist about sexuality, open relationships, polyamory, BDSM, body size, disability, chronic health issues, experiences of oppression, or racism. You are valid. I hold that everyone is an expert of their own life. I am not an expert when it comes to your life.

Chaos happens--accidents, divorces, traumas, as well as setbacks in life, transitions, everyday interruptions, and unexpected events--even falling in love. Chaos untethers us; it changes everything. Our work is to find a new normal--to develop ways to weather the chaos, ultimately leaving us stronger and more resilient.

Interweaving research-supported therapies, I facilitate strategies that help clients discover and apply tools that promote well-being. My priority is to build safe connections with clients in order to help them clarify and attain their mental health goals so they may live a more empowered, meaningful and joyful life.

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
