I use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy and Sensorimotor Therapy to address trauma in adults, adolescents, and children.
I understand the anxiety often associated with going to a therapist for the first time. There are times in life we all could benefit from talking with a professional trained to help us process difficult emotions. In a safe, nonjudgmental, and supportive therapeutic partnership, I incorporate a variety of methods to help clients problem-solve and work through challenges to a better mental health.

I use tools including EMDR, somatic, clinical hypnosis and Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), as well as other trauma-informed approaches.
I serve Alaska and Montana clients virtually. People come to therapy seeking growth and healing. Many seek the benefits of more insight into themselves and their responses to their day to day lives. People seek relief from things like anxiety and depression, wanting to find another way to feel about themselves and their lives. I have a strong interest in working to support healing from trauma. For some trauma is the result of an isolated incident, for others trauma contributes to long-held patterns of thought and behavior that are no longer working well. I believe we are all able to grow, to experience relief, and to heal.

After graduation, I pursued specialized training in EMDR, fetal alcohol syndrome, autism, Filial Therapy, and play therapy.
As a committed Licensed Professional Counselor and Registered Play Therapist, I specialize in working with preschool and elementary age children and their families. Children do not always have the language they need to work through their struggles. If we listen and allow the toys to be their words and play to be their language, they tell us so much. Every child has a unique wonder and light inside of them, sometimes they just need help developing their tools to be their best self. Play is how children express themselves, practice and learn new tasks, and regulate emotions. Many children can benefit from play therapy.

With formal training in EMDR, Brainspotting, and DBT, I have a focus in trauma, anxiety, depression, and inter-personal relationships.
Telehealth Counseling and Coaching throughout the US. While working with people, I help them work through the process of engagement, healing, and growth. My initial approach is to see the greatness of a person. I work with people to help them see their own greatness noting that their behaviors do not define them. The behavior is unhealthy, not the person. Who a person is at the core is always great, healthy, and beautiful. As we pull apart maladaptive behaviors from the individual, I help people become actively engaged in their own therapeutic process beginning a journey of healing and growth.

I believe that successful therapy work begins with a good relationship between therapist and client, and therefore seek to ensure a common ground to build upon. I have dedicated much of my training since to becoming proficient in working with trauma and dissociative symptoms. EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
