I have extensive training in DBT, EMDR, psychodynamic and attachment-based therapies, and practice from a trauma-informed approach.
Anaïs Nin wrote "we see the world not as it is, but as we are." Without self-reflection, we can all fall into old patterns and behaviors which no longer serve us. With self-reflection we can make sense of our worldview and become active agents of change and growth in our own lives. I have about 20 years of clinical experience practicing psychotherapy in a variety of settings.

My specialties include: trauma, grief, life transitions, depression, and anxiety and I am certified in EMDR.
Finding a therapist can be a very daunting task. The idea of telling your story or pushing yourself to make that initial call can feel difficult. I have profound empathy for anyone who feels vulnerable enough to seek therapy. Finding a place to feel safe, heard and supported is essential in therapy, and I strive to provide that for my clients. I bring warmth and curiosity into my work and I will challenge you at times with acceptance and openness.

I'm a trained clinician in EMDR-IA (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are a result of disturbing life experiences.
In my clinical practice, I emphasize a psychodynamic approach to look at your past and present and how that may influence how you make decisions moving forward. I also use a relationship-based therapy approach with a strength-based frame to help you develop coping skills and protective factors against stressors and negative relationships. I do well with those who are experiencing symptoms of Depression, Anxiety and Somatic Mind-Body connection.

I believe we all have rich, inner worlds fueled by confidence, compassion and curiosity. When trauma or attachment disturbances disconnect us from this, symptoms of depression or anxiety arise. My goal is to hear my clients’ stories, honing in on the gems that are buried there to guide them back to their core selves. With empathy and respect, I work with my clients to create, in Marsha Linehan’s words, a life worth living.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
