My treatment is holistic approach including modalities such as CBT, Mindfulness, EMDR, EFT marriage counseling, and some somatic work.
In the TV show "Sex and City" there is a line: " in this city ( New York) everyone is looking for something, a job, an apartment, or a partner. " Underline this, you can feel the anxiety and the need for certainty, comfort and connection. These are human existial needs and I can help you with: stress, anxiety, depression that are related to work, personal/intimate relationship, relationship with children, and developmental trauma. I believe in therapy is to help people to return to normal life, work and develop more enjoyable things.

Bay Area Health Psychology is a group practice (see our website); I am the Director. I specialize in Clinical Health Psychology to assist people with chronic medical conditions, anxiety, and depression to manage their health and treatment. I also assist people with progressions of aging such as dementia, memory loss, and Alzheimer's Disease. And I help caregivers cope with the tasks of living with someone with a chronic condition. I provide EMDR treatment using a special web application, and offer Couples/Marital Therapy based on a "dynamic interaction" model developed during my research at UCLA plus training by the Gottmans.

With individuals, I utilize mindfulness, Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
Are you looking to improve your relationship with yourself and others in your life? If so, then perhaps I can help. I work with adults, couples, and families wanting healthier, stronger relationships, and an overall better life. I enjoy working with people who want to transform their lives and their relationships; those who are ready to release the past and live more fully in the present in order to create a better future. I work with people on issues of trauma, spirituality, and grief resulting from death, a lost relationship and/or lost opportunities. I also work with people with process and substance addictions and recovery.

I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Somatic approaches, as well as EMDR.
I imagine therapy as a means of deepening self knowledge and part of that is learning to recognize the messages that your body is sending you. Well-versed in the language of the body, I am skilled in facilitating the process of reintegration - learning to listen to what your body has to tell you, translating the messages from your own body, and utilizing the information of your lived somatic experience as part of your decision-making process.

My professional philosophy with regards to physical, mental and sexual health is that everyone should be able to discuss their experiences in a safe environment. Too often people are embarrassed or afraid to discuss these things with anyone and feel isolated. Many people have a difficult time discussing their physical, mental and sexual needs/ issues. My goal is to provide an accepting environment for clients to explore their needs and wants. Therapy is an effective and confidential way to grow as a person and learn healthy ways to connect with others and yourself.

Do you... Worry too much but can't help it? Criticize yourself and guiltily believe you're not as good as other people think you are? Struggle with familiar patterns in relationships but can't seem to change? Feel inexplicably blocked from reaching your potential? Believe your problems have roots in the past but don't want to be like Woody Allen, on a therapist's couch, talking about it forever? Yearn for solutions but doubt that true relief is possible? Want to start feeling better ASAP but feel daunted about finding a therapist who will be a good 'fit' for you? I can help.

You never expected this journey to feel this way. The path to becoming a mother or finally settling into the role of raising your child looks so different than you imagined. Negative experiences from the past might be so suffocating it feels like you’ll never break free. The demands and pressure on you keep adding up and you’re trying to balance it at all, but your well-being always ends up on the back burner. You're putting on a brave face for everyone, but inside, you're feeling broken. Honestly, you just wish you could start feeling better or finally get what you've you've been craving for so long.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
