I am certified in several evidence based approaches to trauma including Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT).
As a licensed therapist, I am trained to deal with a wide range of issues that affect one's relationship with self and others, but I have special training in assisting individuals, couples and families to adjust to change and to reclaim their lives following an unexpected event whether the event is recent or occurred many years ago. Reclaiming your life involves imagining and taking action on what comes next so I look to you to define how life would look at its most optimum and focus on goals that will bring that vision into being.

I also use Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to help address client's concerns.
Spring brings change, which can be challenging for mental health. The season's shifts may trigger grief, loss-related emotions, anxiety, stress, and other difficult emotions. Are you experiencing unpredictable waves of grief, hindering your ability to function at work, in relationships, or daily life. This can significantly impact your sense of self and confidence in handling everyday tasks. If you're struggling with sadness, worry, trauma symptoms, or disconnection, you don't have to face it alone. Help is available.

In my practice, I focus on walking with clients through some of the most difficult events in their lives. Whether you've considered an experience “traumatic” or not, if it still haunts you or causes you uncomfortable physical responses like a racing heart or nausea, these can be treated with EMDR or Brainspotting.I, myself, am a trauma survivor, which is why I became a counselor/coach in the first place. I want to help others heal as I have. Utilizing modalities such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) can unlock sensations of safety, clarity and freedom in life.

Many times humans hear what is being said to them, but they seldom listen to the information. I take pride in my ability to both listen and hear what you share with me. I believe attuning with my clients is important and helps foster a healthy relationship in a safe space. It does not stop at words, I find that mindfulness connects your words to what your body is trying to communicate as well. Through my work with clients, I have seen clients grow, overcome challenges, and break through walls of anxiety, anger, resentment, and stagnation.

Earning a doctorate has given me tools for facilitating a deeper connection with my clients. This includes the non-verbal communication that passes between us, processing emotions through the body, and allowing my clients to explore their personal traumas with my support. The goal of working in this psychodynamic, explorative way is to create a deep level of healing and change for my clients, so they are able to move beyond the fear and resistance that may be holding them back. Please look at my website for more information about me: https://www.woodlandhillstherapy.net

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
